RitualOfTheTrout
What do you mean by 'deep watering'? We have grow boxes with false bottoms that hold a reservoir of water, to which the tomato plants can root into. You bury a pipe about 12-18 inches in the soil next to the plant, then pour water down the pipe to water. Here is an example: http://sweetdomesticity.com/2013/06/07/deep-watering-for-tomato-plants/ I can say thus far I have had to water less so it is helping in that regard. RitualOfTheTrout
Anybody have any advice on stopping those cucumber beetles and their spread of bacterial wilt? Seems they manage to hit my cucumbers every year. Try to avoid using pesticides if possible. I'll have to look into it more and see if there is a variety resistant to this. Works wonders.
Eskimo Joe
The cool weather and progressive lowering of the sun angle is starting to take it's toll on our garden. With the exception of maybe a half dozen tomatoes still ripening on the vine, our garden is done.

PennMan
Garden is officially toast. Had my last harvest of tomatoes, basil, beans and peppers Monday. Everything is being composted now.The early September warmth and drying is extending the season here. Still getting hot and regular peppers and tomatoes from my containers. Beets, turnips, and kale are doing well. Peas and lettuce getting going.
