I was inspired to post this by reading through the ku books recently and seeing that prior to 1969 bos did not have one 20 in snowfall, of course since then they have had piles of them

I guess there is no denying the harsh reality that climo is going to catch up with us....as much as it kills me that I have been forced to live in perhaps one of the worst areas for big snows during the recent heyday (past 15 years) of big storms...the thought of another period like most of the 80s to very early 90s is cliff walking material but it is probably coming, maybe not this year or next but its gonna show up I think in most of our lifetimes.

For >15", it is probably in the vicinity of about 20 storms.

Off the top of my head...

Dec 11-12, 1992

Mar 13-14, 1993

Feb 8-11, 1994

Jan 7-8, 1996

Apr 9-10, 1996

Dec 6-8, 1996

Apr 1, 1997

Dec 23, 1997

Feb 5, 2001

Mar 4-6, 2001

Feb 17-18, 2003

Jan 22-23, 2005

Feb 11-12, 2006

Jan 12, 2011

Oct 29-30, 2011

Feb 8-9, 2013

Mar 6-8, 2013

One's that I lived through but do not remember....

Apr 6-7, 1982

Feb 6-7, 1983

Feb 11-12, 1983

I might be missing a couple. Thinking of the list though reminded me just how many events in the >10" but <15" range there have been. A lot of big storms that I thought might be on the list, were like 12" or 13.5" or something. We've certainly been lucky the past 2 decades. The 1980s were absolutely putrid...esp the mid-late '80s and also the early '90s.

werent all three solid two foot plus?

Yes...one was 27.4'', the other I think was 27'' even and the other 24''.  Feb 06, then Jan 2011 and last year.  It might even be more than 3 but those are the ones that clearly stick out.

Yeah well I've been in 1 40"+ storm.  :gun:

20"+ storms?  May need help with the 70s, 80s and90s but in the 2000s I know of at least 4, Feb 2003, Dec 2003, Jan 2005, Feb 2013

That's so awesome!  I would love for that to happen here.

Three 20"+ snowstorms in the past 3 years here... Jan 2011, Feb 2013, and March 2013.

Prior to 2011, I can't even recall the last 15"+ snowstorm.

the past few years have been quite kind to us

There were some prior to 1956 (I was 1 yr old for the big NYC-area storm of 12/47) but I have no memory of them that include snowdepth.

NNJ: 1956 thru 72.....13....12....4  (Includes 18" in BWI where I was at college, blizzard of 1966.  Had about 12" in NNJ.)

BGR:  1/73-12/75......2......0......0

Ft.Kent: 1/76-10/85....24....8....3  (Includes the largest I've measured - 26.5" on 3/14-15/84.)

Gardiner: 11/85-4/98..20....4....0  (doesn't include 2 late April snows in NNJ while we were visiting - 83 and 86.)

N.Sharon:  5/98 on.....26....10...3  (Includes 10.5" and 11" storms last month)

Total........85....34....10
