The 86.3 mph wind gust recorded today at Raleigh Durham Intl AP is the highest gust ever recorded at this station.. Surpassing the 79.4 mph value on 9/17/2004 with Hurricane Ivan.

Here's the full video on CNN http://www.cnn.com/video/data/2.0/video/us/2014/01/12/raw-nc-storm-condo-collapse.ed-braz-wildlife-photographer.html

Towards the end you can see how it became a complete whiteout.  That's how it got here in Cary.

I always thought the highest gust was w/ Fran...come to find out, that was only 78.  This one snuck in there!  I wonder what the gusts would have been if this station was active back during Hazel?

There are three confirmed tornado reports in extreme southeastern VA and that one earlier in the morning in northern Georgia. All of those were EF-0's. That line that blew through the Raleigh-Durham area was obviously very impressive.

I didn't see anything major in northeastern NC, but did snap one neat picture. This was just southwest of Hertford shortly after 4 p.m.
