PennMan
Time for a new thread now that our significant cold has moved out. Had a nice coating of snow in Bellefonte this morning, and the temp dropped to 13° as skies cleared around 7AM. Should be the last day below freezing for awhile. PennMan
I measured .6. Does look nice. Looks like the possibility of a minor event mid-late next week. 12z NAM has .15-.20" of precip as snow around here tomorrow morning. Could be a little 0.5-1.5" event. Could be a little 0.5-1.5" event. 12Z NAM also dumps on the Susquehanna River basin on Saturday... hopefully the ice breaks up quick and there are not any ice jams where the smaller streams flow into the river... backups could get real messy... ground is frozen solid enough i would imagine most of the rainfall would end up runoff if 12z run actually occured
canderson
So, ice question. Why does the river not ice over like a lake and instead create massive boulders of ice that just pile up on top of each other? Is it a current issue or a change of depth issue or something? Is it a current issue or a change of depth issue or something? probably a mix of the two... also changes in width of the river... going from a wide open area to having some of the little islands or more shallow sections get in the way is going to get the chunks to collide more and pile up

pasnownut
His pictures on Facebook say he is near Lowville I used to snowmobile in the Tug Hill plateau and have several friends that live in the area (Barnes Corners/Turin/Boonville), and I can tell you first hand that it is a different world. I stayed at the Montague Inn in Lowville and have seen 3-4" per hour rates. It truly is dangerous as you can see where your riding. ....but playing in 8-10' of powder on a snowmobile is a great experience....until you get stuck. CarlislePaWx
Wow...after looking at the 12Z GFS it's a see-saw over the next 10 days and then the cold air almost completely retreats north across the entire country straight through to the end of the run. Voyager
So I mentioned in the old thread about how difficult it is (was) to haul bulk spring water in a tanker trailer when it's ridiculously cold outside. Guess what happens once the weather warms up enough that it's not a big issue? All my loads for the day get cancelled!!! Ugh.

The Euro Ens and that are completely at odds. The seasonal trend argues for it to be colder but we'll see.
