Thanks! me and my girlfriend are well prepared for the cold. Kind of disappointment we are staying in niagara falls but i will certainly visit downtown buffalo to try and see some good snow.

Downtown should get into the action today so there is your chance. :sun:

I bet you guys down there getting blasted atm,the band is literally 5 miles south of buffalo and the latest Special weather statement suggest it will remain stationary till 8am.

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

INCLUDING THE CITIES OF...BUFFALO...BATAVIA...WARSAW...

THE COMBINATION OF HEAVY SNOW AND WINDS GUSTING UP TO 40 MPH WILL
CREATE NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ACROSS THIS AREA.

IN ADDITION...THE STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE WITH THE INTENSE COLD

Hi! Im a guy from Sweden. I'm really interested in Lake effect-snow and I see you guys have two, nice "lake effect bands" in NY. I've followed this thread since yesterday and it seems like it's really heavy, so how much snow have you got in Buffalo area and up in like Jefferson, Oswego counties?

Sorry for my english btw..

Hi! welcome aboard..I would estimate close to or over 2ft just south of buffalo from lackawanna toward hamburg so far as they have been in the jackpot zone so far, over by Lake Ontario that area just south of KART near sandy creek to lowville is going to cash in based on radar trends overnite, i would estimate close to 2.5ft

Looks like it will stay mainly south of the city per latest AFD

EAST OF LAKE ERIE…THE LAKE SNOW PLUME HAS SHOWN ONLY SLIGHT
NORTHWARD VARIATION THROUGH THE NIGHT AND MAY DRIFT A FEW MILES
SOUTH THEN RETURN NORTH A COUPLE MILES AGAIN AROUND NOON…THEN BACK
TO THE SOUTH AGAIN IN THE AFTERNOON. EXPECT A STRENGTHENING OF THE
LAKE ERIE BAND WITH SNOWFALL RATES TO INCREASE FROM ABOUT 1 INCH PER
HOUR TO ABOUT 2 INCHES PER HOUR FROM MID MORNING THROUGH EARLY
AFTERNOON. HRRR SHOWS A WEAKENING AFTER 20Z WITH INCREASING BOUNDARY
LAYER SHEAR 00Z TO 06Z.”

i cant tell how much we have here its just impossible to measure. Some spots have 3 or 4 inches others have 4 foot drifts. I would guess between 12-16" but no idea to be honest. All i know is if this band stays stationary and sits here all day; possibly intensifying further, Hamburg and OP will be completely impossible to get to for those who for some reason had to venture out to work today, and try to venture home this afternoon. I can certainly see 30" being attainable perhaps more if this can keep up all day but the amounts truly dint matter in this event, its about the windchills in the -30s, the total whiteout conditions, and the fact that people are becoming stranded in a life threatening situation.

Thank you for the answers ayuud11 and lakeeffectkid382 :) Understand that it's difficult to calculate the snow because of the high winds.

But I hope that the band will turn a little north, across the town so I can follow it on the webcam here: http://buffalowebcam.com/live-webcams/elmwood-avenue-panos-restaurant

Please take photos or videos now when it's light outside!  B)

Surprised some of these totals aren't higher, but like everyone's been saying it's nearly impossible to get an accurate measurement with the wind.

As Justin posted in the other thread snowfall reports when winds are this strong are almost always under reported. Id say about 14-16" here, which is extremely compacted due to the brutal winds. If it wasnt compacted due to the winds wed prob have 2 feet. The grass peaking through in some spots and 5 foot drifts in other spots.

I don't blame you...I've only driven in blizzard/whiteout conditions once or twice and it's not something to be recommended!

We've had sun here all morning, but it's now fading behind a thickening veil of fine snow crystals being blown out of the east end of the lake plume. Very light so it would probably take all day to accumlate an inch or two, but pretty effective at reducing visibility. Temp is still below zero (-2) despite the sun.

Looking forward to seeing some photos and video of the real action later on.

Usually there is about 100-200 feet when you are driving through the normal LES we get around here but this was unreal and to make matters worse i was driving on street that had train tracks!! i'm lucky i wasn't hit by a train or another car that couldn't see!.
