January 4th-6th Major Winter Storm Part 4

Yeah per radar, areas north of 401 will likely get another burst of heavy snowfall within the next hour or two before it transitions over to some mixing. I guess it'll depend if the layer of warmth can stay cold enough for a SN/PL mix to stay dominant rather than plain rain.

How much your way? When do you think the temperatures will start falling?

I had 4.2" when i measured about an hour ago. Maybe a tenth or two since.

We're probably going to see temps spike around midnight then fall back after 3am.

I'm kinda spit balling here, but this storm will probably go down as one of the highest coverage (or area) of 10"+ amounts in the state of Indiana, in modern history. Probably joins the ranks of storms like Jan 1978 and Jan 1999, in that respect (10"+ total coverage, not necessarily impact or magnitude of high totals...those two were much different).

Was wondering that myself.  Seems like basically everyone along/north of a HUF-IND-MIE line got at least 10"

The final snowfall total at ORD is 11.7"

8.7" of that fell today, which breaks the record snowfall total for the date of 6.2" (2005).

The 11.7" from this storm and the 10.9" from the Dec 31-Jan 2nd storm makes it only the 4th time on record to have back-to-back 10"+ snowstorms.

10.9" - 12/31/2013-1/2/2014

11.7" - 1/4-5/2014

12.4" - 1/25-27/1978

10.3" - 2/6-7/1978

14.3" - 3/25-26/1970

10.7" - 4/1-2/1970

12.5" - 2/3-4/1896

12.0" - 2/12-13/1896

Long duration event will get us there. cold temps and talcum snow is the only reason it will be only 8-12"

Overnight: Snow. Blowing snow. Breezy. Total nighttime snow accumulation of  2 inches. Lows around 7. North winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph.

Monday: Snow showers. Blowing snow. Breezy. Total daytime snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches. Highs around 8. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts to around 35 mph. Wind chill readings 7 below to 17 below zero.

Monday Night: Snow showers. Blowing snow. Colder. Total nighttime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches. Lows around 4 below. West winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph. Wind chill readings 18 below to 28 below zero.

Tuesday: Snow showers. Blowing snow. Accumulation possible. Highs around 5. West winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts to around 25 mph.

Tuesday Night: Blowing snow in the evening. Snow showers. Accumulation possible. Lows near zero. West winds 5 to 15 mph.

Wednesday: Snow showers likely. Highs around 13. Chance of snow 60 percent

That seems reasonable, already picked up about an inch so far since about 7 tonight.

Biggest storm in Howell since the 1970's. The big dog streak is over. I'm getting friend reports of 17 inches. 20 inches looks like a probable total.

If u are at 17 I will give it a 50/50 chance u hit 20. I think the highest I can reach is 18 but u never know

That 2 day gap for this year is nuts.
