Brian5671
Can anyone post a still image of the squalls last nite? I saw them animated..but I was wondering if anyone had a still shot. Joey said it blew up overhead or something i'd be curious to see a loop-we had flurries here when I went to bed at 10:30, but radar was quiet otherwise. Ginx snewx
LOL @ thinking I'm upset. I don't care one way or the other. If it snows, it snows, if it doesn't, it doesn't. I have a lot more important things in my life to worry over (my health being #1), This squall line was pretty well modeled. BOX had it in their grids, at least for my area. Oh man Bobby hope you are OK, this stuff is just in fun.

Ginx snewx
The cutters have made ground temps colder than previous years I noticed...snow pack is thinner to insulate during these cold shots. Frozen ground.Brian Dendrite likes this post
Damage In Tolland
Yeah this seems run of the mill lol Ryan Hanrahan @ryanhanrahan1m -24.5C 850mb temperature from the OKX (Long Island) weather balloon launch looks like the 12th coldest on record for NYC area. And as we've discussed for the last week while temperatures at 850mb would be quite impressive it would be very meh at the surface here. Delivering a cold shot on a WSW flow never delivers the goods here. It's cold but seems to me like a once every year kind of cold here in present climate regime. It's definitely cold but for most of SNE this really isn't too noteworthy. Wind chills from 0 to -15.... Day time temps around 10.

snowman21
BDL did set an unofficial record for Jan 6 with a 35 degree diurnal range (55/20). Beat the old record by a couple of degrees.

ORH_wxman
Thursday night might be a good example of "cheap cold" as the high goes overhead. 850s warm to like -4C to -6C but it could be darn cold in the rad spots.
Clinch Leatherwood
I don't know I think the cold has been very noteworthy. If you do business around the country...this cold snap has really F'd up business. Heck whole states called off school in the last day or two. Epic here no but as part of a larger picture of some pretty cold air....this is deep winter. It's 1/7....let's not forget we've got another 30-40 days of opportunity. To have the 3rd day in the single digits/teens so early is very, very impressive IMO.

When was the last time we changed 50 degrees in 12 hours? What is impressive is that we've had three torches/cutters and three arctic outbreaks in like the last month. Talk about volatile weather. Yeah during the last outbreak we got -24F at 11pm and -24F at 12am before rising. Got credit for -24F on two days for about an hour of those temps out of a 48 hour period.
