Nice Wes!

I already know what your article is going to say and I'm good with it. The writing is on the wall for a period once we moderate next week. SSW will save us! lol

It was a good winter. At least Wes got to see snow again.. it could be another few years. ;)

BWI up to 4.2" storm total.  That sounds more representative of the area.  Still can't believe (well, yes I can since it's DCA) that DCA didn't get any measurable snow after midnight.  NWS employee reported 6.5" in Columbia!  I think I'm going to go with an even 6" for MBY.

5.7" IMBY.  Morning low 12.4

Final total 2.5"...DCA's total is believable.  They hit 33 briefly a couple times, but their official low was 34....Ian texted me that he had almost 1" when I was at the Old Post Office and it was barely sticking.  Subtle latitude and elevation changes mattered early in the storm. I measure on my roof because it is huge and gives me many flat surfaces to measure.  Even creating an artificial 200'+ feet I did worse than places <2 miles to my north with similar elevation as UHI had a big effect as well as latitude as my early temps were a tad higher...

It was a good winter. We still have another week too. I'll start the 14-15 thread next weekend. CPC has us @ 40% probs of nino conditions for JAS period. It's gonna be rockin!

Yes sir it is. How much do you have?.

We ended up with 8.8" in Mount Laurel, NJ. There is a lot of blowing/drifting, too. Several people in this area received between 6 and 10 inches. The roads are still pretty covered in my town, which is a rare sight these days.

Thanks HM. We'll go back to doing what we do best now after this one...unless this is the year of the reverse bust? Thoughts on Jan 9-10? lol

The El Nino "touch" continues on and will probably allow us a few more opportunities. We are not done yet friend!

Thanks...these bands have been nice...this was the best one...

I thought the models, overall, did a great job up in my region and they definitely sniffed out the potential of those late night bands. In my area, the NAM and EURO kicked some butt.

So I noticed something while shovelling my drive and sidewalk. There was a layer of slush on the bottom of the snow pack, and the concrete was actually wet after shovelling. Kind of surprised since it was 17 out. Was the snow insulating the concrete?

In areas where the top snow had been blown off, the slush part had frozen solid and was stuck to the concrete.

Image swath this afternoon from MODIS/Terra was perfect for our area.  Here's a clipped version of the 250m resolution image of the DC area.  Love the streamers coming off of the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays.  Links to the full rez complete 250m and 500m images are below the pic.

It's a good lens. I got my first SLR (film) in college baed on a buddy's suggestion and he pointed me to the Tamron as a cheap versatile option.  I broke the first and then bought another but with VR/IS... that one fell out of my bag while running through the derercho and I didn't realize till I was home. Thought it over a while on getting a faster lens with less range but ended up buying the VR/IS again.  I'm not good enough to tell why it's much or any worse than a higher end piece.  My Canon 17-40mm is softer on focus as far as I can tell.

thx again and to wxdude

My Tamron 18-200 is pretty much my standard lens on my Canon D50. (I need the wideish angle for the pics I take on my blog.) I briefly went back recently to the Canon 18-55 that came with with the camera, and I was shocked at how much fuzzier the images were.

Great shots.  Will be interesting to check it next Thursday-ish to see if we can get some ice on the Potomac and Chessy.

Frederick County has a working wood shop fire with a tanker task force.  Water shuttle operations in weather like this is a royal P.I.T.A.

I agree 100 percent.  Shuttling in this weather is a P.I.T.A.  Back in 2009-10 I wasn't shuttling but was in the back of the engine during a small electrical fire some 6 hours after the second of the back to back blizzards.  After we cleared, pulling out of the incident driveway our FADO was navigating a tight turn out amongst probably 50+ inches of snow on the ground at that point and he found the way off the driveway and tilted the entire engine 45 degrees into the bank.  Now... THAT sucked.
