CoastalWx
Hey now! Tickling 1° here and -1° over in Union. I looked deeper and yeah you are correct...it's a great setup for radiation I think. Between being a weenie for the last 24 hours....I didn't notice those cold 850 temps and those dews lowering. I wonder if I can get below zero at home. powderfreak
Fantastic toboggan runs with the grandkids, cold but they hung in there. Hot chocolate was a blessing. As soon as the sun went down it went to a different level of cold and we called it quits. Probably hit -6 or so here. Coldest since 04 Awesome. I miss the few trips to Woodstock in the winters over the years...sledding down the front lawn at the cabin with a woodstove going as the only source of heat, the out-house or au natural the only bathroom options, and 2 miles of dirt road the only way out. Your post just hit me with a strong bout of nostalgia... good times. What's funny, is some always mention up here as "being in the sticks" or "way out there", but those days in that area of CT was more "rural" feeling than all my time up here in northern VT. H2Otown_WX
If you have not changed your car battery in 4+. years you will find out tomorrow. Almost couldn't get my car to start today. A balmy 3.7F here. I don't radiate particularly well so it'll be interesting to see how far below zero I can get.
Walpole Joe
Awesome day today; days like today are why we tolerate summer! Headed to Frozen Fenway tomorrow with the family, will be my kids first visit to Fenway. I was telling them mine was in the magical year of 1975 in September, second grade. El Tiante vs Palmer, Sox won 2 - 1 on homers by Pudge and Rico. It stands out in my mind because a witch doctor danced on the Birds dugout during the game; have never forgotten it. Thank God 2004 came along, never thought it would happen! Oh yeah, 5 degrees here
weathafella
If you have not changed your car battery in 4+. years you will find out tomorrow. A few weeks ago ours died on an am in the singles. Turned out to be defective and we got a new one free. Still I drove it around a few minutes ago after walking home. I'm probably the only person in their late 60s smiling in the deep cold... Love it and yea rural NE CT is a gem.
snowman21
Temps running a few degrees warmer than they were at the same time on 1/16/2009. The morning of 1/17/2009 saw widespread -10 readings down to the CT shoreline. Dew point is pretty much dead on and snow cover probably isn't much different this evening than it was then, perhaps a bit more tonight than that 2009 night. Too much of a breeze tonight I think. You would be surprised how many retirees I ski with, some 80 plus, they love winter and swear it's why they are still around. Got to get out in it, breathe it in. Good stuff last night Jerry. Not sure you read it but I posted for someone to call rescue because there was an old guy In Brookline hugging the snow shouting over and over I love you Leon, I love you. snowman21
fresher snow cover? We have a fresher snow cover tonight, though there was a 3-5 type snowfall on 1/15/2009 so it was similar. Inland sheltered spots will do fine tonight, but so far it's too breezy at the coast. 1/16/2009 it was dead calm during the evening and allowed temps at the coast to be a few degrees below zero by midnight even though it was warmer during the day than today. We'll see what happens...its early.I hope so, but this is the prime drop off period which can be make or break. I was looking forward to tonight's lows more than the snow since I knew the snow would be relatively pedestrian in CT. Would like to be sub-zero by midnight for the bootleg low (just like 1/16-17/2009).
Brewbeer
Down to 5F outside Springfield. I spent a few months in Steamboat Springs one winter about 20 years ago. Morning lows typically ranged from -10 to -15 down in the valley. Had to install an engine block heater and keep it plugged in at night or you couldn't get your car started in the morning.
