It's hard to believe that a record low in ORH in January would be as warm as -3F.

Looks like the records around here were ORH hitting -3F last night before midnight (ties the record low of -3F in 1904) and BDL breaking today's record with a low of -9F (old record low -7F in 1981)

I thought places like ORE and AFN could get to -20F but they didn't...1/24/11 was more impressive in those areas.

Nice spot and right along the St. Lawrence....  I did some kayaking along the river there in August.  One little anomalous part of an island in Robert Moses State Park goes above the 45th parallel and there is a sign denoting it. They didn't even get close to torching there in that grinch thaw period.

lol at MSS/Massena, NY going from a low of -19F to a high so far of 28F and still climbing for a couple hours. Wonder if they can pull the rare 50+ diurnal trend. They jumped 16 degrees between 10-11am alone.

Jan/Feb 1994 was my ultimate for sub zero mornings where I lived in Saugerties, NY then. We had 19 low temps below zero. This would have a long way to go to  approach that winter.

I'll try to find out. BTV mentioned something about being in the top ten for duration of below zero streaks, but I'll see if I can find something more clarifying.

tougher to get 'colder' temps on top of the hill there .. usually need strong caa along with optimal wind dirrection (IIRC recently a change in location of the temp sensor causes it to run slightly warmer, especially in certain wind directions)

Impressive. Any other dates that happened..can you site? Tyia.

This was what BTV had to say...  again just for reference, Burlington had 58 straight hours below zero in this one.

"While this was quite notable, it wasn't record-breaking. At least in Burlington, the top was 114 hours stretching from Jan 7-12 1968, and the next-highest was 72 hours from Jan 14-17 1965. The Feb 1979 cold snap is the "benchmark": 139 hours between Feb 12-18 1979, with only a couple hours where the temperature barely broke 0 in that period."

Its funny because I used to have the Albany mentality from growing up that anything below zero was really note-worthy...and now up here, I don't really pay attention until we get into the -20F to -30F range, lol.  Funny how your personal goal-posts can move over time depending on residential location.

ORD with 6+ and low teens tomorrow and then MEX has them -13/-20 for hgh/low Monday. This used to happen but has been absent largely the past 15 years so it's nice to see.

-13º would break the all time low max record for Chicago. -11º is it right now, set back on Dec 24, 1983 and Jan 18, 1994.

But ORD will get midnight-high'ed most likely. LOT has -4º for them at midnight.
