Congrats man!

I think ORE and CEF dropped to -17 between the hourlies:

I don't think this will be the coldest air-mass relative to normal this season but might be the coldest recorded temperatures regionally. Radiate in calm icebox conditions allows for some outrageous records. State record for Mass. is -35°F in Chester back in '11

Bottomed out at -31, third coldest since I moved here in 1998, beaten only by the Jan 2009 cold spell that broke the state record.  Should see temps above zero this afternoon, for the first time since about sunset Wednesday.

And we have a winner as far as coldest temp for a poster...

I believe Will confirmed that when you have that NPAC look particularly in the GOAK you can access some serious cold. approaching halftime but I suspect last will not be the coldest night of the winter. Lol....BOS was colder the night before while it was raging snow.....1 vs 2 for today's low.

Late January into early February may delight the frigidaires.

Looks like the records around here were ORH hitting -3F last night before midnight (ties the record low of -3F in 1904) and BDL breaking today's record with a low of -9F (old record low -7F in 1981)

I thought places like ORE and AFN could get to -20F but they didn't...1/24/11 was more impressive in those areas.

The record low at BDL was the first "new" record low in the month of January (meaning not tying) since 2001. 2008 tied that same 2001 low. I was susprised they didn't break any lows in 2004, though that month didn't have many radiational cooling nights. It was almost all CAA cold.

The -9F at BDL is also their coldest reading on any date since February 1996 when they hit -13F.

I remember that cold spell in 1996. That was a good one..I think mostly radiational cooling though like this past one.

Good stuff.

1/24/11 they made it down to -7, but wasn't close to the record... -19 in '61.  That is the heart of the climo cold season, so no surprise I guess they came up well short.  That said the record for 1/25 is only -4.
