Geos
Awesome pictures Blizzard! Drive to Racine wasn't too bad, but once I got closer to the lake the visibility dropped down and the snow picked up. I think Tuanis will win on accumulations this time. 13.2" from a CoCoRaHS observer down the road, might need to re add up my numbers. Although that was at 5am and I measured at 7:30am last. DAFF
Snowfreek how is the LES looking for later tonight. Tired but lots were all down to a coating between 5am and 8am. Blowing like mad outside and many spots have 3-4' drifts.

A-L-E-K
Mike Caplan just had an interesting rant on Facebook. He doesn't seem to enjoy snow much. lol To all the people that think this snow is merely "pretty." Turn on our news. Watch the thousands of motorists stuck in their cars on the Stevenson because of a single accident right now. That's just one spot we happened to feature moments ago. Consider the OTHER thousands of people elsewhere throughout Chicagoland whose lives have been adversely affected by this. Can't get to work or school. Accidents. Closures. Delays. Cancellations. Sure. Plowing services are making $$$. Snowblower sales are skyrocketing. Auto repair services are booked. But events like this occur at great personal and overall economic detriment for so many. Chicago WX
Just did my measurement, and came up with around 4.5" here at work on the southeast side. Thought that might be high, but considering the drifting...and seeing this report from 8:00 am, I may be close. Steady fatty flake snow here right now. WE ARE ALSO ADDING JASPER ANDNEWTON COUNTIES IN INDIANA TO THE ADVISORY AND UPGRADING PORTER TO AWARNING.AREA OBSERVATIONS AND RADAR IMAGERY INDICATES THAT THE MAINCONVERGENCE AXIS IS BEGINNING TO ORIENT ITSELF RIGHT ACROSSNORTHEASTERN ILLINOIS. CURRENT INDICATIONS BASED ON OBSERVATIONSINDICATES THAT THE CURRENT SHOWERY NATURE TO THE SNOW...WILLORGANIZE INTO A SINGLE BAND OF HEAVY LAKE EFFECT SNOW BY EARLYAFTERNOON...AND THIS LOOKS TO SET UP RIGHT ACROSS PORTIONS OF LAKEILLINOIS...SOUTHWARD THROUGH COOK...FAR EASTERN DUPAGE...THROUGHWILL AND KANKAKEE COUNTIES IN ILLINOIS THROUGH AT LEAST MID TO LATEAFTERNOON. THIS BAND WILL THEN SHIFT EASTWARD ACROSS NORTHWESTERNINDIANA THROUGH THE EVENING. SNOWFALL RATES HAVE ALREADY BEEN AROUNDOR JUST ABOVE AN INCH PER HOUR IN THE HEAVIER SNOW SHOWERS...ANDTHESE RATES COULD EVEN INCREASE SOME AS THE BAND BECOME BETTERORGANIZED BY EARLY THIS AFTERNOON. SOME SNOW RATES COULD EXCEED 2"PER HOUR. AS SUCH...SOME AREAS ACROSS THE WARNING AREA COULD GET INEXCESS OF 10 INCHES OF SNOW BEFORE THE SNOW TAPPERS LATE THISAFTERNOON.THE NATURE OF THE SYNOPTIC SCALE INVERTED SURFACE TROUGH WILL ALLOWTHE LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS TO REACH WELL INLAND ACROSS PORTIONS OFEAST CENTRAL ILLINOIS. THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE EXPANSION OF THEADVISORY INTO KANKAKEE IN ILLINOIS AND JASPER AND NEWTON COUNTIES ININDIANA.IN ADDITION TO THE HEAVY SNOW...NORTHEAST WINDS OFF OF LAKEMICHIGAN COULD GUST UP AROUND 30 KT...AND THIS WILL PRODUCEBLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW...ESPECIALLY NEAR THE LAKE.
