NWS FFC just posted on their FB page: "Road conditions in NE Georgia are going downhill fast. Three major highways are impassable with all lanes blocked. If you live north of Gainesville, PLEASE stay off the roads!"

I don't see much on radar in spots in Georgia that are reporting snow. Why is that? sorry if this is a stupid question. and mods feel free to move this if it is not in the spot.

Most radars have a hard time picking up light snow when it is far enough from the radar. Peachtree City is probably the source of the radar you are looking at and it's south of Atlanta, so it often under-reports light snow in the north Georgia mountains.

Yes, and it is particularly true today. Most of this, including the clouds, is all below the beam. This cold, the dendrite production zone is near the ground. All this is mechanical lift right up on the mountains. It is very localized too.
