This was our first winter storm here and had no idea how to handle it. I shoveled the snow, only for it to then be 4" sleet coated with an inch of solid ice. We couldn't get into our garage for three days, and only then because I used a post-hole digger to break up the ice. Needless to say, that storm sucked.

Now you're a pro!

How do you handle 5' of snow? Plows can't keep up with it, right? Do towns all contract to frontend loaders to something?

We received 82 inches of snow in 5 days in 2001 in a city that includes the suburbs with a population over 500,000 people. We have some of the best snow plowing plans in the nation. But yes they contract various local plowers, but each municipality has it's own way to clear there specific section of roads so its not all thrown on one location.

Driving home from Lock Haven (left around 12:30) on 15 we hit the freezing rain right outside Liverpool, PA maybe 25 miles from harrisburg. Wasnt too bad but when we got off onto 322 towards harrisburg holy hell the roads were atrocious. Not treated at all and just sliding every which way. Think we got onto 322 around 230 or so. Once we got into Camp Hill I'd say the front of my car had a solid .25in of ice on it. Insane

32 with icicles on my weather station. Just got back from a birthday party and a quick trip to Walmart. Roads in the area are just slushy. I assume Penndot was out as soon as the rain started. A quick testament to just how cold the pavement is still, I went out in my yard to take this pic and the bottom of my shoes were wet. I came back onto the covered porch, and after standing in one spot for about a minute or two, I could feel that the moisture had frozen and my feet were "stuck" to the pavement.
