From the radar trends, it looks like the areas near Harrisburg and the Susquehanna valley that stay below freezing for the next few hours will get the most ice.

Places to the NW (Altoona, State College, Williamsport maybe) may not see precip for at least another few hours so we will have to monitor temperatures.

This is very encouraging in the long term for winter weather lovers: http://phillywx.com/forum/medium-and-long-range-discussion/4650-january-discussion-no-squash-for-you?p=6472#post6472

Second half of winter from mid-Jan to April 2007 was pretty good. It also hung on a long time.

Snow totals from the Jan 20 on in 2007:

UNV: 36.4

MDT: 21.3

IPT: 29.5

If we were to get a repeat, assuming no other snow between Jan 5 and Jan 20, this would be our winter snowfall:

MDT: 35.8" (115% of average)

IPT: 49.4" (137% of average)

UNV: 54.6" (120% of average)

Pretty good. Pretty cold too.

That winter also had the infamous Valentine's Day storm, which was one of PA's most disruptive storms ever.

I really disliked the day after the V-Day 2007 storm. Worst snow/ice removal i ever did!

This was our first winter storm here and had no idea how to handle it. I shoveled the snow, only for it to then be 4" sleet coated with an inch of solid ice. We couldn't get into our garage for three days, and only then because I used a post-hole digger to break up the ice. Needless to say, that storm sucked.

All I can remember is the sound of the sleet constantly blowing off the roof. It was like salt.
