1234snow
Dang Stovepipe. Just the aggravation of getting a car fixed is a pain. I was shocked when I read earlier they didn't close school. Can you imagine the more hilly side of the county? I heard on the radio the roads are a mess and my brother just left to go to the drug store to get some medication he has to have today. He has to go up the hill by Walgreens at Lovell. I'm glad it's just a fender bender, but there's no reason that had to happen. I'm so sorry. She is fine, just waiting for some assistance to arrive although there doesn't appear to be any police on the way. I don't care about the van, that's fixable, but it's pretty ridiculous that schools were open. I'm just a hobbyist weather watcher, not even a particularly good one, and I could have told you at noon yesterday that schools should have been closed today. By last night there was near 100% certainty we'd get an inch. That's good news to hear that she is fine! Snow has not stopped all day but it has been very fine. Now the flakes are getting larger and heavier. Temperature is 15 and we have .75 inches of accumulation. The radar is a thing of beauty:

My brother made it back but he saw two different fender benders with people sliding in to each other. The article in the Sentinel said that buses in Sevier Co couldn't get all kids home. I'm very shocked they didn't close. Even I knew they would get snow. She may have a long wait on the police.
Tabbycat
Mr. Bob, you have to drive from Chatt this evening? I guess the interstate should be ok, depending on when they treated it, if the snow keeps up. Be careful and your picture is pretty! It doesn't sound like they're treating much of anything around here.
Stovepipe
News just said 10 buses are stuck with kids in Knox County.

dwagner88
I-75 was slushy but passable from Cleveland to East Brainerd, but the secondary roads are hopeless. It took me 2 hours to get home from Cleveland, and I had to walk the last mile. Cars in ditches everywhere. I have 0.75 and it is snowing moderately right now. and yes, that is a meth ruler. For measuring . . . . . . meth.
Windspeed
A moderate snow band is really starting to crank through East Tennessee into SWVA. Really nice returns from I-40 Crossville all the way to I-81 Abingdon. It should remain in place for at least another hour or two from Crossville and areas just north of Knoxville. The Tricities and Abindon area may even top 4" in places in the foot hills and valleys before this band finally lifts to the east.
Tabbycat
Nope...I was already booked all week for the cold wave...they don't let me go home when the very cold weather comes in. Well dang. That's worse than year end audit stuff in accounting. It might be late, but I do get to go home. A reporter on the other side of Knoxville said there's two inches. I'm moving! John1122
I live a few miles NNW of LaFollette. Southern half of the county basically has had steady snow. Nothing for me at all. John1122
I take that back, it's started snowing since I last looked out and we've got a dusting. But it's fairly light, which that band of pretty heavy stuff is basically covering the southern 1/3 of the county.
Carvers Gap
1.5 - 2 inches here in Kingsport. Just depends on what band set up on you. Side roads are a mess. Main roads are decent but not great. Might pick up one more based on radar returns.

John1122
David Aldrich is saying 2-5 inches for me. I think he's a bit over exuberant and would feel extremely lucky to get an inch. You folks south and east should run at 2 inches, and the further east you go, may approach 5.
Tabbycat
Wow, 17 cars. John, I just knew that snow would make it to you. It's picked up better here again with good size flakes. I can only see a little grass, or maybe stacks of leaves now. -this is actually the best snow I've had yet and I thought it was over.

Tabbycat
From looking out front, I do have a good solid inch or more based on tire tracks and footprints my brother left, though his footsteps are filling in again. It may be icy but I can see some pavement on the road now from enough neighbors driving by, I assume. I live in a condo so there's a lot of traffic in a small area, but I was still surprised to see some road. I couldn't a few hours ago. It's maybe 2/3 covered now. Chattownsnow
well I finally got home after a 1 HR drive from work that usually takes 10 mins. its complete chaos in the roads in Chattanooga. cars in ditches, its bumper cars everywhere in my neighborhood. If you have rear wheel drive just completely forget about getting in your car. People around here just have no idea how to drive in this.

tnweathernut
Looks like the best lift is beginning to leave east TN. dwagner88
The RAP says we have another 0.10 qpf to come. There is another band of stronger forcing over the plateau that should slowly sag SE this evening. For now the snow has stopped here.
