The front, at the time you posted this, was just south of the area and hadn't even cleared the coast. The winds were still out of the west at 10 and this kept the temp at that time fluctuating between 36-37.  Once the drier/cooler air arrived along with a nw wind, an hour or so later, temps went down into the upper teens to low 20's. Next time you want to whine, do it with the correct information  <_<

What was incorrect about my post?  I don't post incorrect information.  What location south of Greenville County had temperatures in the teens at Midnight?  None, the northern counties of the Columbia media market touched 18-19 by 7AM.  I'm not whining, I just find it fascinating how everybody says the mountains are the primary reason the temperatures don't drop here.   At 4 AM this morning it was 14 in Greenville, 14 in Atlanta, 16 in Athens, and still hovering around 30 in Columbia.  That is pretty remarkable considering there is absolutely nothing but 300-400' in elevation change.

Atlanta is a bad example because there is no physical obstruction, but Charlotte is another story.

So...at midnight=low for the night? No....cae was correct showing upper teens to low 20's for the area. At 4am cae was in the mid 20's and dropping. The temp continued to drop as the caa pushed into the region. At 7am there were SEVERAL reports of temps in the upper teens according to weather stations in the area. Do your research before you post. Your first post was temps "hovering" around 40....no....they were "hovering" in the mid 30's and fluctuating with a west wind due to what I previously posted.

will be leaving Charlotte Monday night to head to Florence and will be in Florence until Wednesday night. Hopefully both areas get slammed.

FLO has a better chance than CLT, as things stand right now.  If ILM get a 6"+ event that might be reason enough to go see the in-laws…well maybe it needs to be 10"+ to get stuck in the house in with the in-laws.

First time poster guys. I live in Wallace NC, basically 30 miles north of Wilmington and was wondering what potential snow we are looking at here for the mid week storm. Was highly disappointed with the last one when we got 3 flakes. Thanks for all y'all do and all the info y'all provide.

Or what??? What you paying for a GFS fail? LOL

I want the GFS to show a massive coastal about 150-200 miles off the SE coast that pounds everyone I-95 and points east.

Well, if I win the Warren Buffet NCAA bracket challenge of $1 Billion (that's right, Billion with a B ) for correctly picking all winners, then I'll pay you $10,000 (that's right, Thousand with a K).

Low temperatures at midnight?  What are you talking about?  During the 10 PM hour the temperature at Owens, which is close to where I live, them temperature had risen up to 38F.  I don't know what number system you use, but in mine, that is near 40.  Why do you keep telling me to do my research?  A four year old could look at reports from a weather station.  As I said in my previous post there were some stations on the fringes of the viewing area that had reached 18-19 degrees.  My reason for previous post was that I thought it was remarkable how warm temperatures stayed in this area for so long before finally dropping early this morning, and the contrast to areas 90 miles north and west that are south of the mountains.  When forecasters have to keep adjusting their hourly forecasts to accommodate the warmer than expected temperatures at that particular moment, I find that interesting.   I also find it interesting that guys like John Farley of WIS continue to forecast temperatures colder than what they will logically get to because of what we have seen in the past.

Just thought about what I wrote above, if you are east of I-95 you have 3 major models (Euro/GFS/CMC) all showing significant snow event at day 5-6 with ensemble support and with consecutive runs on Euro/GFS.  That's fairly impressive.

Should we make a thread for the IMBY/newby questions and the rest of us respond if we wanted to?  Might be a good way to teach the newbies something and not clutter up the other threads. The mods could move those questions to the new thread and hopefully keep folks out of trouble.  I'm no expert, but I wouldn't mind answering a few IMBY questions for folks.

I keep saying that because it is true. If a four year old can do it, then so can you. You previous post I bolded what you are saying now that you didn't say.

No...another thread isn't needed. They just need to read. If there is a legitimate question pertaining the set up it will be answered.

I do not even recall that. We always welcome new folks..

By the way, what was all that garbage earlier in the year about us not welcoming new members? What a bunch of hogwash.

Thanks for your hard work to keep the threads straight Michelle. It makes reading pertinent information so much easier for us guys at work that can only dive in and read during "down times". Now, let's just get this system a little further west......
