Where are you located?

I have always noticed that the cold comes down the mountains, especially where I-26 is built, straight down into the Greenville area then stops right around Laurens.  There is also a delayed cold air intrusion at the top of the Savannah River which I think is due to the the two high mountain ranges that are to the north and west.

I am just north of Easley. In my observations, western upstate seems to have more trouble cooling, perhaps because we are closer to the mountains than the eastern upstate, thus more of a block from the cold air. Plus, the western mountains are just a little higher, which may enhance the downsloping effect. It is amazing what going from Ceaser's Head to the upstate cities can do in terms of temps and practical weather. Ceaser's Head might be 15 degrees colder with snow showers, and I will be completely clear.

Yeah, I grew up in Hartwell, GA and it was the exact same situation, it has to have a lot to do with that ridge Highlands and Cashiers sits on directly to the north and west.  Here in Columbia is another story altogether.  Somehow someway Columbia hangs on to warm air hours behind cold fronts.  Columbia temps are usually on pace with Savannah or Jacksonville, FL.

Pulling for back home to score some snow while I'm working in Ohio. Woke up to -6 in Hillsboro, Ohio this morning. I'm getting nickeled and dimed up here which thankfully let's me still work, but hoping to at least see one 6"+ snow between here and CLT sometime this winter. Knowing my luck a big dog will happen back in the Carolina's midweek and all I'll have left is stale snow when I get home Saturday. Why can't the fun and games happen on my week off? :P

I'm getting really confused with Brick posting actual maps in the storm thread.  I've never witnessed this before.  What gives?  :P:D

EVERYONE comes out of the woodwork with a storm like this one modeled...lol

Very light.  Supposedly the front had moved east of the area several hours ago, so you would expect NW winds at least 10mph or greater bringing in colder air, but its fairly calm.  The mountains don't seem to slow the cold to much from spreading into your area in Eastern North Carolina, even as far south and east into Wilmington.

The front, at the time you posted this, was just south of the area and hadn't even cleared the coast. The winds were still out of the west at 10 and this kept the temp at that time fluctuating between 36-37.  Once the drier/cooler air arrived along with a nw wind, an hour or so later, temps went down into the upper teens to low 20's. Next time you want to whine, do it with the correct information  <_<
