Damn... I have no complaints right now. Cold is here, snow chances look great, I don't think it's a matter of if we're getting snow, it's a matter of how much. In my opinion the trend can only go so far northwest with the cold barring down... Shi*, I'll find something to bitc* about.

Dumb Question time:  What's the difference between a longwave and a shortwave?  I really don't know.  Thanks!

Longwave trough is that big U looking thing on the map.  Shortwave is a piece of energy in the jet in the trough.  I'll post a map in a sec.

Edit:  Ok, here you go.  Here's the 144 hr 12Z Euro 4 panel chart of our storm.  The solid black line I drew in the upper left (500mb) panel represents the longwave trough.  The 3 green circles represent the shortwaves, or upper level pockets of energy in the longwave flow.  Depending on their trajectory and strength, they can sharpen up the base of the trough, which can spin up a storm (off the coast in the upper right panel).  The lower right panel shows 850 moisture and temps.  I drew the rain/snow line in red.  As you can see, it's very far east. :snowing:

Via Twitter from maker of WxBell snow maps...Grain of salt needed folks.

Please, don't even look at ECMWF 12z -- that snowfall isn't real (I think)

What does that even mean?

Edit: He's saying the storm isn't going to evolve the way the Euro is showing?

Pretty much a wishcast at this point (next Friday), but I'd love to see 1-3 inches of snow in Tallahassee. pic.twitter.com/h4FOVPVb7i

Are those are the same snow maps that Larry and Shawn were pointing out that had the accuracy issues in the pattern thread?

Yes, however with the cold air in place this would fall as 100% snow I believe. Haven't checked soundings or anything but you would think no mix/IP/ZR would be falling and that was the argument with the overdone snow on the maps. Maybe I read too far into his tweet and he was specifically talking Tallahassee.

Sad thing about it the drug store might not have enough you will have to buy straight from the company.

True

What 90% of the posters in the storm thread look like today trying to analyze the Euro.

  That was exactly what I was thinking while trying to read it. It's a good thing the only thing I have on my schedule is a Father/Daughter dance for a couple of hrs tomorrow evening in Blythewood
