Thank you all for the support. I told you all I would keep yall informed so here is the prognosis. We just found out that my mother has stage III ovarian cancer and it has spread to some of her intestines. They are going to do surgery next Wednesday to try to get as much out as possible. It has spread to her lymph nodes also. All I can do is take it one day at a time. Again thank you all for the support!

Having a mother who has battled cancer I can relate brother. Prayers for your family.

My prayers are with you and your family. Have you ever heard of the site Caringbridge? When my mom was going through her cancer surgery, chemo and radiation, that site was a real blessing for us. People were calling my mom constantly and it was exhausting for her. I made a Caringbridge page for her and would give daily updates and on days when mom wasn't feeling well, I would include that and politely ask that nobody call her so that she could rest. It was really handy. They've come such a long way with chemo and other treatment options. I hope your mom has the same outcome as mine and comes out the winner.

Oh thank you for the information and I will look into the site. That sounds really nice. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers.

Continuing to lift your family up in prayer, Met.

Thank you!

Thank you! Ya this is the second battle. Cancer is evil and I feel helpless. Just doing lots of praying and just preparing for the worst really. This cancer is very aggressive. I just have to take it one day at a time.

I have muscadine and scuppernong vines. To this date we've only made jelly but I would love to make wine one day. A good winery down east is Duplin Farms. They make the best wine from muscadine and scuppernong.

I've got a small vineyard of scuppernongs myself but not enough to do anything with yet.  My concord grapes do produce enough to make wine with but the jelly is just so good.

Does it act as a filter of sorts?

How close are you to upstate SC? I need a brewing partner.

It is a fining agent.  It basically causes the protein molecules suspended in the wort to "clump" together and settle to the bottom.  The more protein molecules suspended in the beer the more cloudy it is.  This will become apparent when you put your bottles in the fridge first time, you will see the "chill haze."  Also, it is important to cool your wort down to 70ish degrees from boiling as fast as possible to enhance the clarity (I know you are past this stage, but something to keep in mind next time).

Unfortunately, I am located in Atlanta.  I am by no means a brew master but I know some stuff.  Everything I have learned is through online forums and experience.  I've never made wine but I am going to try soon.

Yeah - bringing the boil down to 70 was an interesting experience. Broke the thermometer and everything. But I got it down fairly quickly. I think I'll wrap the hops in cheese cloth next time though. That was a mess.

Awesome suggestions - hope you post more here on the weather side as well :)

We'll the streak has been for every wet weather event since way back in November to over perform qpf wise. Today's little rain event kept it going. Now the 1st real test comes. Finally a chance with cold enough air aloft to send something in the form other than rain to the ground will arrive Wed/Wed night. To turn the .10-.15 qpf into a .30 or higher scenerio would do a lot of folks good. All streaks must come to an end and I'm willing to bet the farm with our luck Wed night we get the ole kick in the gut! I do feel good about seeing a 4 or more inch snow IMBY sometime over the next 4 weeks better than I have in a couple of years.

I wish I knew as much about weather as I do brewing haha. I know how to read the models for snow but I don't have anything to contribute as far as analysis, research, etc. It seems you really need to have your ducks in a row before posting, which is fine because I am content just learning from what y'all write.
