It was our friend because the models were showing more precip, which was already posted before. I was commenting on those runs. At least I was commenting on the posts that others made about the model runs. Not sure how that is anymore like banter or relevant than posting something about it doesn't look good in my backyard, or yeah snow for the mountains and northern counties of NC. I don't see how that is really different from posts you made on that thread. Not going to fight about it, but it just seems inconsistent to me.

When you can post a map/sounding/data, explain in your own words what you are looking at, and contribute in a positive way, then get back to me about some of your posts getting deleted. If you would like me to consistently remove all of your nonsense then by all means continue to whine.

Ok, I can help talk you through it:

Open a new internet browser or another tab and type www.google.com in the address bar. Hit Enter. Type "psu ewall" in the search field. Hit Enter. It will return a list of blue links (sometimes the links will appear purple if you've been to the site before...don't worry, yours will be blue). Click the first link. It'll take you to ewall. On the right, you'll see the line for the 12z NAM with some hour markers. Click All. You'll see the time frames across the top or in the bottom left. Scroll across them and you'll see the four panels change. The one on the upper left has a bunch of red stuff in it. Tell me what the red stuff is doing. TIA!

That, my friends, is how it is done!  Well played, sir.  Well played.

What's the NAM showing for the upcoming system? I'm at the dentist and they won't let me use their computer to check....something about private dental records or some nonsense like that.

:o

I guess there is no shame in your game. I think I've heard it all now.

CR " Can I use your computer?"

Dentist " For what?"

CR " So I can check the nam."

Dentist " WTH is Nam?"

CR " Its a weather model"

Dentist (bewildered look) "Sorry patient records are on there. doctor patient confidentiality"

Haha!  I don't care about patient records...only snowfall records.  But I guess that doesn't matter very much.  They were like, "Is it going to snow?"  I said, "I can't tell you without looking at the computer."  Oh well, I guess they'll never know.

I'm getting nervous about a chase this year.  With that in mind I would like to refine WeatherNC's criteria for a chase.

~6 hours, we have a forward operating base though.  Location is largely based on HPC prob maps, we are not a 12" outfit, 40% chance of seeing 18-24"

Too vague and doesn't allow for increasing desperation. I propose the following criteria for a first chase of the winter.  As you can see there are adjustments as we get deeper into the season without a chase.

December: 90% chance of 18+" of snow within a 250 mile radius.

January: 70% chance of 12+" of snow within a 350 mile radius.

February: 50% chance of 6+" of snow within a 500 mile radius.

March: 30% chance of 3+" of snow within a 750 mile radius.

April: 10% chance of snow flurries anywhere a passport is not needed.

JB just tweeted (thought it was appropriate for this thread):

Joe Bastardi ‏@BigJoeBastardi2m

I have never seen this cold a run of the ECWMF ensembles day 10-15. Outrageous

I copied these from the model thread to make my "banterish" post.

I've decide I want Joe Bastardi to write my obituary. I want to be remembered as the biggest, baddest most outrageous MFer to ever walk the earth. A BIG DOG that laid waste wherever he went and farted vodka cold.

Any home brewers in here?

Tonight, I'm bottling an IPA that's been fermenting for the last two weeks, and need suggestions on how to siphon without bringing all the sediment with it.

Siphon from near the surface. Once you get near the bottom tilt the fermentor to make it easier to siphon with out touching the yeast cake. Your last couple bottles will probably have more sediment in them but that's ok. All your bottles will end up with sediment in them anyway due to the bottle conditioning process. If you want to increase the clarity of the beer I would recommend you rack the wort into another carboy for secondary fermentation. Hope this helps.

I don't brew beer but I have made a lot of wine the past couple of years. I have found that my more expensive siphon tube and head does a much better job at leaving the crap behind. I just bottled 30 bottles of muscadine wine last fall and have a gallon each of pawpaw, apple, and dandelion going now. The pawpaw is going to be amazing.

Thank you all for the support. I told you all I would keep yall informed so here is the prognosis. We just found out that my mother has stage III ovarian cancer and it has spread to some of her intestines. They are going to do surgery next Wednesday to try to get as much out as possible. It has spread to her lymph nodes also. All I can do is take it one day at a time. Again thank you all for the support!

Thanks a lot.  I was thinking of the mountain folks trying to get together sometime and meet one another in Asheville or something. Yall seem like a real nice group of fellas. Ya medical treatment has come a long way. Shoot maybe God can work a miracle in for her. She is staying optimistic and I am trying to but working in the medical field I know all to well how cancer just tears you down.

My prayers are with you and your family. Have you ever heard of the site Caringbridge? When my mom was going through her cancer surgery, chemo and radiation, that site was a real blessing for us. People were calling my mom constantly and it was exhausting for her. I made a Caringbridge page for her and would give daily updates and on days when mom wasn't feeling well, I would include that and politely ask that nobody call her so that she could rest. It was really handy. They've come such a long way with chemo and other treatment options. I hope your mom has the same outcome as mine and comes out the winner.

I have muscadine and scuppernong vines. To this date we've only made jelly but I would love to make wine one day. A good winery down east is Duplin Farms. They make the best wine from muscadine and scuppernong.

The secondary fermentation suggestion is great. I will definitely do that next batch (going to brew a brown ale for St. Paddy's)

We grow scuppernonogs (about 21% sugar) and have thought about it. Might have to try it in the fall :)

You can also add Irish moss in the last 20 mins of the boil for enhanced clarity (not so important for darker beers).
