buckeyefan1
Yeah, that didn't really answer my question. I guess it's because I made a comment that the trend of the models today looked good, and then it was deleted, while there is another post on the same page talking just about someone's backyard, and I see other general comments like that about the trend of the models and such. The trend is our friend doesn't cut it. Why is it our friend? What did it do to form that bond? It's really sad that you need an explanation why your post was deleted. If you would give your own reasoning, instead of just wanting to see your name in a discussion thread, you wouldn't have these issues. Brick I say this as nicely as I can and it's going to come off really mean...but if people got the sense that you knew anything about weather and what you were talking about you probably could generalize. Instead you generalize other people's generalizations and it's clear you have clue as to what you're talking about. If not you can always give us your analysis of the 18z GFS but I'm not going to wait around for it.
Isopycnic
Stolen from DBM, Thanks JamieO! How to avoid having your favorite hobby ruin 3-5 months of the year....First off, climo, climo, climo. You have to adjust expectations to climo. You can't expect a Currier & Ives winter if you live in @#$%ing Leesburg. Unrealistic expectations is the surest way to disappointment. Take a look not only at your annual average snow, but your monthly. You can find this on many NWS office or climate sites. NOW data is a good place. This can give you a good idea of what your best months are, so you aren't whining in late December that it hasn't snowed yet. In general, Jan-Feb are the best months for the east. If you are expecting a foot-deep snowstorm every year, look at those monthly averages. If none of them are above 12", that should tell you that foot deep snowstorms are a relatively rare occurrence. Also, before you start demanding a KU every winter, take a look at the Northeast Snowstorms book. Note how many KU storms are in there. You can't realistically expect one every winter. Realize that on average, the majority of precip that falls will not be accumulating snow. Assuming 10:1 ratios, for example, more than 80% of DC precip is rain and more than 60% of State College precip is rain. That way rain storms like today's won't be as upsetting. Way too many have way too many caveats for a good winter. I see people who say snow is only any good from Dec to late Jan because of sun angle melting it away and losing snowcover. Or a big snow storm is necessary. Or a winter with no warmups. Or a winter where precip is mostly snow. These are very very rare winters for most of us east of the Apps and south of I80. Also, many of our biggest snowstorms happen in Feb into early March. Don't spend the entire storm fretting over the radar and dry slots. Get the @#$% outside and enjoy it. If you have a dog, take it for a walk. Nothing reflects the joy you are feeling in the snow better than a dog. They tend to love it as much as you do. But honestly, waiting a week for a big storm and then sitting inside if it actually happens is insane. Appreciate the little things. 1-2 and 2-4 snow events have their charms. Small surprises like an unexpected snow shower can be a lot of fun. If the forecast was 8-12 and you got 8, it's not a bust. And also, who really gives a @#$% if you got 8 and the next town over got 9 or someone in the suburbs got 11. One of the worst things about the Internet for the snow weenie was being able to easily find out who got more than you during a storm. Before the Internet, you wouldn't know. This one is dead serious. If you do any of the following and are not kidding when you do it: - post about missing a storm using "devastating" "crushing" "really depressed" "heartache" etc. - post "we'll never get another storm with more than _____ inches" - talk about how the winter is out to get you or against you. - snap at anyone using reason, logic, or statistics - talk about things that are more or less paranormal, such as storms having awareness or planning abilities - purposely get into fights or try to get banned - become really down and depressed for more than a day after a bustThen you likely have issues that go beyond weather and probably should at least see about getting them treated. Keep in mind, a friend with a background in psychology saw our community and asked me if I thought there was a higher than average of depression among our community.Anyway, this is what I taught myself to make the winter more enjoyable. calculus1
Here are some of the highlights from the etiquette thread 7. You almost never know more about weather than a red tagger, unless it's Analog96. So, rule 7 has me curious. Who is Analog96 and why might I know more about the weather than does he? I know there's got to be a great story here just waiting to be told...

packfan98
I have a question about the etiquette rules too. It says to only post the course NCEP images. I can't seem to post any images from the NCEP site anymore. I try and i get a message that I can't post an image from that website. I can post the link, but not the image itself. Am I doing something wrong?

ATTENTION DIRECTV SUBSCRIBERS- TIME UNTIL YOU LOSE THE WEATHER CHANNEL Hours 4 Minutes 23 Seconds 19 tick tock Saw the weather channel on Saturday night, they had a countdown clock in the upper right corner, a dedicated lower scroll over the weather scroll and weather icon area and at least a few popups on the screen between the incessant begging from the mets every few minutes. Sickening...

Jon
Just curious. Does WeatherBell also show Euro ENS and ENS members? Not in the way Allan's models do. You can select an individual station and see outputs for 50 members numerically (snow accum, temp, precip, etc) but no mslp/850 maps.

Solak
Speaking of TWC vs: Weathernation - I saw this posted on their FB page in reply to a friend of mine last night.. David, the service they have added, Weather Nation cannot replace the brand, expertise and infrastructure we have built over the last 30 years. Weather Nation is a taped, regionally-focused network with poor production values that is not up-to-date, displays little expertise, has no weather experts, and provides little weather analysis of any kind. A small handful of employees cannot serve as a resource like The Weather Channel, which has 220 meteorologists and some of the most noted severe weather experts in their fields. Hvward
One of the best shows on tv right now. Have to agree, I am very interested to see how this all plays out.
