Are we getting NAMed?

came in wetter and warmer it looks to me......these are good things.  if that front hit the brakes just a touch the line theoretically will back further north and west as it rides it.  We don't need much....50 miles or so max.  Cold ain't gonna be an issue.

Tell her that's a great idea.  It will make us nearly invisible in the snow.  BTW, this makes her an accomplice so she better hope we don't get caught..

Guess I've been married too long and can't interpret well anymore; thanks for the help!  Now her friend wants to go help; I'm in bigger trouble..

What's up James? :)

I'm close to 3" on the NAM.  This is the same damn model that didn't give me a flake at 12z.  You get hammered.  BL temps ruin it for coastal weenies, but don't they have the beach to enjoy?

EDIT: Wait, I'm losing it.  I was looking at the GFS.  The NAM is a disaster.  Well, I might get 1-2", so maybe "disaster" isn't the right word.

Go home, SREF.  You're drunk.

A mean of 7.5" of snow for GSO?  Even throwing out the three highest members, the mean is over 5".  I'll believe it when I see it.

Edit:  Per packfan98, I accidentally posted the previous 21z.  But even if the mean slips to 3", it's all overdone.  This system is DOA for the Triad.

That's awesome. What's the QPF for RDU? I can't see because I'm on my phone because the better half is on the computer working and I don't want to get yelled at. :o

I was about to say.  :)  The NAM has been stingy with the QPF for GSO this entire time.  That's why I'm not buying our getting anything more than one inch tops.  Though I'd say you're total might be slight better than mine since I'm a few miles north.

I think that's last night's 21z run.  The last run I saw was around 3" now.

Sorry, I made a deceptive post earlier because I apparently don't know how to view the NAM and clicked on the GFS instead.  LOL.  Anyways, ~0.5" for RDU.  0.1" for GSO.  It's an improvement over 18z, I think, but the NAM has been drier/further east than the other models this whole time.

I say we toss it and go with the GFS/RAP/whatever other model that gives us the most snow.  :weenie:

No, the NAM is a disaster.  I guess the 50 people that live between Raleigh and Greenville do really well.  No precip to the west and warm to the east.  There's a smallish strip of jackpot zone and everyone else gets screwed in one way or another.

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE RALEIGH NC
532 PM EST MON JAN 27 2014

...PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT...

WITH ACCUMULATING SNOW IN THE FORECAST...HERE ARE SOME WINTER STORM
SAFETY TIPS:

TO PREPARE FOR A WINTER STORM...BE SURE TO RESTOCK OR UPDATE YOUR
EMERGENCY KIT. ALWAYS KEEP AT LEAST A SEVEN-DAY SUPPLY OF NON-
PERISHABLE FOOD IN YOUR HOME AND A GALLON OF WATER PER PERSON PER
DAY...AND MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ADEQUATE CLOTHING AND BLANKETS TO
KEEP YOU WARM. MAKE A FAMILY COMMUNICATIONS PLAN. YOUR FAMILY MAY
NOT BE TOGETHER WHEN HAZARDOUS WEATHER STRIKES...SO KNOW HOW YOU WILL
CONTACT ONE ANOTHER...HOW YOU WILL GET BACK TOGETHER AND WHAT YOU
WILL DO IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY. LISTEN TO A NOAA WEATHER RADIO OR
OTHER LOCAL NEWS CHANNELS FOR CRITICAL INFORMATION FROM THE NATIONAL
WEATHER SERVICE. BE ALERT TO CHANGING WEATHER CONDITIONS. BRING PETS
INSIDE...AND MOVE OTHER ANIMALS OR LIVESTOCK TO SHELTERED AREAS WITH
NON-FROZEN DRINKING WATER.

DURING THE STORM...IT IS BEST TO JUST STAY INDOORS. BUT IF YOU MUST
GO OUTSIDE DURING THE STORM...WALK CAREFULLY ON SNOWY...ICY...WALKWAYS.
AVOID OVEREXERTION WHEN SHOVELING SNOW. OVEREXERTION CAN BRING ON A
HEART ATTACK...A MAJOR CAUSE OF DEATH IN THE WINTER. IF YOU MUST
SHOVEL SNOW...STRETCH BEFORE GOING OUTSIDE. KEEP DRY. CHANGE WET
CLOTHING FREQUENTLY TO PREVENT A LOSS OF BODY HEAT. WET CLOTHING
LOSES ALL OF ITS INSULATING VALUE AND TRANSMITS HEAT RAPIDLY. WEAR
MULTIPLE LAYERS OF THIN CLOTHING TO STAY WARMER; YOU CAN EASILY
REMOVE LAYERS TO REMAIN COMFORTABLE. WEAR A HAT; MOST BODY HEAT IS
LOST THROUGH THE TOP OF THE HEAD. WATCH FOR SIGNS OF FROSTBITE AND
HYPOTHERMIA...SUCH AS UNCONTROLLABLE SHIVERING...MEMORY LOSS...
DISORIENTATION...INCOHERENCE...SLURRED SPEECH...DROWSINESS...AND
APPARENT EXHAUSTION. IF SYMPTOMS ARE DETECTED...GET HELP
IMMEDIATELY.

DRIVE ONLY IF IT IS ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY. IF YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST
TRAVEL...BE SURE TO HAVE A CELL PHONE WITH YOU. REDUCE YOUR SPEED...
AND LEAVE PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN YOU AND OTHER VEHICLES. BRIDGES
AND OVERPASSES ACCUMULATE SNOW AND ICE FIRST. APPROACH THEM WITH
EXTREME CAUTION AND DO NOT APPLY YOUR BRAKES WHILE ON THE BRIDGE.
IF YOU DO BEGIN TO SLIDE...TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE GAS AND TURN THE
STEERING WHEEL IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SLIDE. DO NOT APPLY THE
BRAKES AS THAT WILL CAUSE FURTHER LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE CAR. IF YOU
SKID OFF THE ROAD OR BECOME TRAPPED IN YOUR CAR...STAY CALM...
REMAIN IN YOUR VEHICLE...TURN ON YOUR FLASHERS...AND CALL 911 FOR
HELP. IF YOU RUN THE ENGINE TO KEEP WARM...OPEN A WINDOW SLIGHTLY
FOR VENTILATION. THIS WILL PROTECT YOU FROM POSSIBLE CARBON MONOXIDE
POISONING. PERIODICALLY CLEAR AWAY SNOW FROM THE EXHAUST PIPE.
FINALLY...KEEP A WINTER WEATHER SUPPLIES KIT IN YOUR VEHICLE THAT
INCLUDES SAND TO IMPROVE TRACTION...SNOW SHOVELS...AND ADEQUATE
CLOTHING AND BLANKETS TO KEEP YOU WARM.

WITH SOME SIMPLE COMMON-SENSE SAFETY EFFORTS...YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
CAN STAY SAFE DURING WINTER STORMS. FOR MORE INFORMATION ABOUT
WINTER STORM SAFETY...BE SURE TO VISIT READYNC.ORG...AND DOWNLOAD THE
FREE READYNC APP ON YOUR SMARTPHONE.
