Brick Tamland
The great thing is the ensembles match the OP. And we are within 48 hours. I can see it backing down some, but not much in 48 hours.

Lookout
This is what hope looks like My soundings from the GFS. this one is very pretty. GFS_3_2014012618_F60_34.0000N_84.5000W.png I have gone back and looked at my gfs soundings several times because I'm loving that I see no warm nose, no issue with surface temps, no issue with moisture, and nothing but subfreezing temps all the way. There is definite thrill and relaxation to know there is NOT going to be an issue with temps. It's so rare that one has to really enjoy it when it happens. And as a sounding junkie that's always dissecting them whenever there is a winter threat and having to wonder about that warm nose, or boundary layer temps, or worrying about our dewpoints and wetbulb temps.man it's wonderful to see all those negative signs in front of the temps
CaryWx
im a lineman in Carteret county what does it look like for us down on the coast! thanks Don't jump offsides. (Kidding). There will likely be freezing rain either on the coast of just inland depending on where the low is, warning criteria also likely,
metalicwx366
I'm kinda worried down here. Freezing rain for a prolonged period of time in an area that never sees it. This would be a threat anywhere in the US, then you put that in SGA. I guess NWS might go with Ice storm warning.

mackerel_sky
Now what would be awesome is , we get some snow over and get those negative low temps a day or two afterwards, 2014 will be one for the books! There are some -5 lowes showing up. , our all time record low is -6 I believe
metalicwx366
Your house will be ok, it's warmer than everywhere else around!Lol! That's will come in handy when we are out of power for about a week. Haha jk.Look at this image of the GFS. It has me colder than the surrounding areas. Notice we are getting freezing rain already and surrounding areas are still above freezing. The opposite usually happens lol! http://i.imgur.com/8rMoKz9.gif
J.C.
18z gfs gives cae .26 zr, 1.24 ip and 8.3" of snow according to bufkit This would be awesome!

JoshM
Let's just hope the 0z runs don't come slap us back into reality... it's just a couple hours a go most of us were doom and gloom. I love the look of the ensembles, but still cautiously optimistic.

Thundersnow, sleet and freezing rain may be possible across a large area.

I love the look of the ensembles, but still cautiously optimistic. I already told you, book it that this thing is "tha bomb" since I don't get back til Saturday. I've been in a bit of a winter wonderland up here, the drifts from less than 6" of snow are unreal, but nothing beats a big storm I can actually get out in and enjoy back home. Pulling hard for everything to fall perfectly into place!
J.C.
I would be happy with 1/4 of that Absolutely agree. How cold did you get at your house yesterday morning. I saw the airport hit 11F. That is the kind of radiational cooling I have been waiting to see.
