LOVE that banding developing over the 2nd tier county corridor in Michigan. By the way, a question maybe for the local mets, but I noticed earlier that there were pronounced 'waves' of enhanced precipitation moving from east to west. Any idea what that's about?

From which radar?

I'm liking the saturation trends between Fort Dodge and Des Moines .... nice uptick nearer to Fort Dodge despite the main band shifting south towards Des Moines

Yeah I'm just not sure how much of that is going to make it here. Looks like south is the way to go. But I see the northern part saturating nicely as you mentioned.

Sweet +SN there.

Flake size on the increase here again. Otherwise I've been on the edge of the synoptic snow for the last 45 minutes.

You missed a good 45 minutes. Slowed down a bit now. Things out over the lake still look good, I think we'll see another synoptic band or two pull through for us before things shift south and we turn our attention to LES. Looking at the radar, DuPage, Kane, northern Cook County and southern Lake County look to be sitting pretty while this thing gets its act together.

As of last measurement, 8.4" total from the event, compacted to about 8.0", with around a foot OTG: http://ustre.am/16Txc

It was from DTW's a couple hours ago.

I wasn't able to find the feature you were speaking of, but it could be several things. With easterly surface winds there could have been increased low level moisture moving westward which with seeder/feeder processes caused increases in reflectivities. Also, it may not have been anything moving westerly at all and may have just been the way the frontogenesis bands were forming that they built westward and appeared like the band was moving that way.

Sorry I couldn't help any further!

That's close to what I got actually. There was some good LES bursts during that time. Not steady though.

kind of cool...still stuck under 10 dbz returns but rates have ticked up now that we've lost the band to the south.

Intensity keeps on wavering up here... goes from a thick wall of white with limited visibility to a much lighter snow in the matter of minutes. A sure sign that the synoptic event is getting its act together and the lake is getting involved.

Pretty thick ATM: http://ustre.am/16Txc

That's what the story is here too.

Up to 8.2" here. Only +0.6" since 8:30am. Getting windy, so multiple measurement are in order.
