huronicane
Newest snow map. RPM_330z_010114.jpg He mentioned the newest development could boost totals past the predicted 2-4" tonight. Is that an accumulation in addition to what we have now, or an overall accumulation map?
tuanis
4.0" on the dot and back to SN.We've gotta be at 4" or more here with the heaviest rates of the event so far: http://ustre.am/16TxcRadar is picking up out towards Rockford.
Geos
Is that an accumulation in addition to what we have now, or an overall accumulation map? Yes. Milwaukee just produced this map. I can't believe that haven't issued a watch or advisory for the lake snow. Very unlike them. haha.

janetjanet998
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE MILWAUKEE/SULLIVAN WI 947 PM CST TUE DEC 31 2013 UPDATE THE SNOW IS REDEVELOPING ALONG THE IL BORDER AS SHOWN BY THE MODELS WITH PERSISTENT 850 MB FRONTOGENESIS AS THE CAUSE. ADDITIONAL ACCUMS SHOULD BE MINOR. WILL WAIT FOR SNOW TO COMPLETELY CLEAR IOWA...DANE...AND JEFFERSON COUNTIES BEFORE CANCELLING. WILL KEEP THE OTHER COUNTIES IN THE ADVISORY AS LONG AS SNOW CONTINUES NEAR THE BORDER BUT ALSO DUE TO EXPECTED LAKE EFFECT SNOW BEFORE SUNRISE OVER SE WI. NAM CONTINUES TO FLIP FLOP ON WHETHER WE WILL GET ANY SYSTEM SNOW FROM THE SOUTH FOR WED. EITHER WAY IT WILL BE LIGHT WITH MAIN CONCERN THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW POTENTIAL FROM WED THROUGH THU. A PERSISTENT ENELY FLOW WITH LAKE TO 850 MB TEMP DIFFERENCES FROM 17-21C IS EXPECTED. IN ADDITION THE DENDRITE ZONE IS WITHIN THE BOUNDARY LAYER UPWARD TO 850 MB. THE HEAVIEST LAKE EFFECT SNOW COULD BE ON THU WHEN A DOMINANT LAKE EFFECT BAND FORMS AND SHIFTS SWD THROUGH ERN WI. THE LAKE EFFECT SNOW CHART SUGGESTS A FEW INCHES OF SNOW PER 12 HOUR PERIOD DURING THIS LONG DURATION EVENT. TOTAL SNOW ACCUM FORECAST CAME OUT TO 6 INCHES IN THE SHEBOYGAN AREA TO 8-9 INCHES FROM MILWAUKEE SOUTH TO KENOSHA. NO CHANGES TO THE WINTER WX ADVISORIES AT THIS TIME BUT THEY MAY NEED TO BE EXPANDED IN TIME AND NORTH ALONG THE LAKE.
