snywx
So rare for southern Brooklyn and your location to have temps so close to one another. Somehow, you're 20 degrees colder than Brooklyn during almost every storm. But, It's 11 degrees now where I am. Its def weird cause on the other side of the county its near 0.. Interesting indeed
green tube
LGA at 5, EWR at 6, JFK still at 4 as of 3am...remember that can mean anything from 4.5-5.4, 5.5-6.4, and 3.5-4.4 respectively pretty soon you're going to have to specify whether you're talking about snow totals or the temp. Wxnyc
Look at the radar and the way heavier echoes are rotating in westward, deformation band I'd guess.
jm1220
Going through JFK. At 6AM JFK will report 4.2 inches. JFK's report always kills me. I have to think we're at the half foot mark now-really piling up outside. But the blowing/drifting is getting worse-some places are almost bare, some have a foot or much more. tmagan
30-40 years ago the city would never close for a storm like this, we've turned into wimps these days or just people looking for a cheap day off...the February 94 storm on Friday the city schools were open and people went nuts over it and ever since that day they've been much more trigger happy to close. The Blizzard of 1996 changed everything. One difference though today, temperatures are terribly cold. Although that will also be the case Tuesday morning as well. jm1220
Look at the radar and the way heavier echoes are rotating in westward, deformation band I'd guess. Models like the RGEM and the short range HRRR really keyed on this inverted trough feature-that's what I'd guess this is the start of. Models had the heightened QPF max over Long Island and the NJ shore for a while now. It might just hang out overhead and snow itself out-some recent models have suggested that too. Eduardo
Definitely a storm to be remembered. Just woke up here in Lindenhurst (SW Suffolk) to absolute whiteout conditions. Cannot see to the end of my block. I'd guess we are approaching 7 inches or so and the wind is easily gusting over 40mph! Just incredible!
