ace0927
1025PM measurement, 2.75", .75" in the last hour. Not loving (but not complaining or freaking out) the radar and the heavier echoes consistently moving south and east
96blizz
Contemplated going to bed and then I paused and thought about all the hours I spent on this thing. Going back out with another beer in hand!! 9 degrees a and snow and wind picking up again in southern Sussex Co NJ!!

WintersGrasp
Snow redeveloping over NW NJ...light snow....I'm not really loving the radar either...but I was assuming that CNJ would get more, into long island and SNE...so I was prepared for it and who freak out
+SNfreak21
Backbuilding in East PA evident with heavier echoes near Scranton, those bands should pivot from SE to NW
96blizz
really have a hard time seeing thast verify in northern countiesDisagree. Picking up and ratios are sick.
EasternLI
4.5" on the ground, light snow at the moment, wind is picking up
jm1220
EWR and LGA only had 2 as of last hour and JFK still 1 it would seem but in the last few years I have really learned not to trust these airport observers. JFK especially will be bad since they measure on a rooftop apparently.
Bluescat1
I am looking at 4 inches TTN 22.0 light snow continues.
jm1220
really have a hard time seeing thast verify in northern counties This part was always supposed to produce more near the coast. I'm worried about parts of CT that might get missed by this and were missed by this morning/afternoon's activity.

jm1220
Coming down moderately again. Blowing/drifting really starting to pick up. Estimating maybe 3.5".
ace0927
usually 15-20 DZ snowfall would net very little accumulation....this is a very unique storm (I mean most storms are unique, but this is out of the realm for this area)
jm1220
I'm next to JFK and we are approaching 4 The snow will blow off the roof they measure from if that's how they do it.
nyblizz44
If the Low is heading ENE wont it pull ot the heavy snow in CNJ without to the south of KNYC?
ace0927
Coming down moderately again. Blowing/drifting really starting to pick up. Estimating maybe 3.5". i was just out and we are approaching 3" on grass and just over 2" on pavement

If this continues for another 6 hours or more, I think 10" is possible. 6-8" is very likely.
Stormlover74
Good explanation why snows been lighter to the north but why it won't stay that way http://www.nymetroweather.com/2014/01/02/live-blog-significant-winter-storm-expected-friday/
SRRTA22
995 already? Here we go boys, that low is going to go boom. 12-4AM is going to be ripping snow
TWCCraig
Winds really amping up here. The 4km NAM picks up on decent OES banding off the LI sound tomorrow morning. 15z sim radar has all of LI under a 20dbz band with strong CAA. Cold temps over running that warm surface may produce a slight bump in the totals.

If this continues for another 6 hours or more, I think 10" is possible. 6-8" is very likely. most models have it snowing through 7-9AM (dont they?)....the ratios during the last 5-6 hours might be insane...im thinking 10-14 is possible for E NJ and S LI (east of us)....well probably be in the 8-11" range
Sock Puppet
Grass and pavement should measure the same since it accumulated immediately unless you're measuring drifts. i was just out and we are approaching 3" on grass and just over 2" on pavement

SRRTA22
If the Low is heading ENE wont it pull ot the heavy snow in CNJ without to the south of KNYC? When the low bombs and comes more north, it's going to bring the lifting and heavier precip/banding more north. Don't worry. If this thing tucks just a little bit more west, 8-12"+ is looking likely, esp. over long island. Monmouth/Ocean counties may be getting into the 15" range when all is said and done. Let's see what the low has in store for us.
ace0927
Grass and pavement should measure the same since it accumulated immediately unless you're measuring drifts. there is less than a .5" difference. There are ZERO drifts. the yard is an even smooth layer of snow

Superstorm93
Coastal is rapidly deepening, winds are increasing, temps are plummeting, and the northern regions will see heavier snow build in. Everything is fine.
killabud
there is less than a .5" difference. There are ZERO drifts. the yard is an even smooth layer of snow yea...it's bit breezy but not seeing anything too crazy in terms of wind
