I don't get why people like cold.. super dry windy cold. Why? Makes no logical sense.  You don't really acclimate to cold it just becomes less annoying or more annoying depending on how you feel about it overall.  Plus you have to prepare for like 10 minutes to get ready to go outside into the cold windy cold. In summer if it's hot you wear a tshirt and short and hang out in AC.  A whole lot easier.

Like Bob said, you can dress warmer in winter but you can't dress colder in summer. It gets to a point where heat is just uncomfortable. Do too much and it is swamp azz city. When you can sit in the shade and sweat it sucks. Winter is self regulating. Too hot? Peel off a layer. Too cold? Put one on.

In my line of work I find it harder to recover from days and days of heat than cold. Hell, I get used to the cold after a couple days and the 40s seem warm. That doesn't happen with the heat. 90s and 100s just blow day after day

Exactly. I think people forget how much they stink during the Summer, even with deodorant. Yes, you can withstand the heat but everyone else has to deal with your nasty pits and other odors leaking out for three months.

Sweat soaked everything because you're concentrating on a crossword puzzle is nasty. I love being outside in all temps except dca triple h heat. It's our most consistent pattern though so it is what it is.

I wear shorts and tees in the 60's and shorts and sweatshirt in the 50's. 70's are great too. Anything over that is less fun.

For me, when it's summer, it better be hot so I may enjoy my drinks as I soak up the sun by the pool. Then enjoy amazing thunderstorms in the evening. When it's winter I would like it to be cold and snowy.

I like cold and heat. It is the biggest benefit to living in our area. We get real seasons here. About the time you just cant stand the heat of summer anymore. You get a beautiful fall. When you just cant take the cold anymore you get a beautiful Spring. I really wouldnt live anywhere else. I am going to order some of those bacon bowls.

...I'm originally from northern New England where the Caribou, ME NWS office will issue special weather statements like the NWS offices have done here since the outbreak of record cold temps. However, they add a helpful note...on nights as cold as these, drivers should take special care in the morning for kittens and cats that will climb inside the engine of a car to stay warm and are often terribly injured or killed when people start their cars. As someone who has gone through this, I can assure you, it is a horrible experience to inflict such damage to a living creature. You might want to add a note to your message that people bang on the hood of their cars or blow the horn before starting the engine to avoid hurting an animal.

Thanks everyone....

The 2 hour school delay for ffax bothers me a bit, mainly because winds are calm. 5ish degrees for the low out in the western part of the county, which certainly is cold but kids need to learn how to carry on with normal life even when things are uncomfortable.

Probably a dead horse issue by now, but the decision is a bit weak and it was made super early.

That is how my Dad and Step-mom  picked up their cat. She went to start her car one day last winter and a stray had climbed inside under her hood. She heard a weak cry when she opened her door,  and the cat was on top of the battery when hood was popped open. She was just a very young kitten then.

This is the mistake that I see parents, teachers, and school administrators make on an almost constant basis.  Kids need to experience being uncomfortable, they need a little bit of failure, they need to learn to pick themselves up and dust themselves off.  Good article in the Post yesterday about kids going off to college and becoming depressed and lost without their parents constant monitoring of their activities.

It's all about making the kids feel good now.  They inflated SAT scores, they inflated GPAs (you can now have a 4.5 GPA from what I understand), and every sports team gets a trophy, even if they don't win a game.  Sure they feel good, but they are ill prepared for the real world.

My son got done with play practice at his middle school 1/2 hour earlier than I was expecting yesterday. He stood outside for that 30 minutes and waited for me to pick him up at the previously appointed time rather than check-in to extended day. In the process he saved me $6.50. I have decided I have raised him right. $6.50!
