jnis
Cool-- what subject? Science? Well I started there as a math, then switched to world studies. I have also taught reading and science. I would like to switch to all science at some point. I have K-8 certification.
Mrs.J
Washington Co just announced they will be closed tomorrow. I have heard from a few teachers and subs who say that Frederick Co. have people who will be in early to start up all the busses and that heat will be run all night in the schools to keep the temps up. While my kids do not ride busses and will be properly dressed, there are many more who will not be. Although with a lot of older homes up here and row homes the schools will probably be a better option for many. Will see how things shake out. KAOS
This polar vortex is an underperformer ....I was expecting a liquid nitrogen effect when I walked outside. Polar Vortex Fail!!! At least it's cold, dry and windy.
Kay
Why is everyone hating on old man winter? and how do we know winter is an old man in the first place?! Ha! Interesting though. Maybe symbolism of winter=death...on the other hand, OMW still seems to be a pretty healthy guy. I looked for origins bc I'm a nerd that way. Hard to say from a quick look but appears Old Man Winter was a pagan figure who would be welcomed in hopes of a gentle winter. He seems to have merged over time into other legends of Father Christmas and St. Nicholas/Santa Claus...also an old dude. In Polar Vortex news, winds are howling and I think a large tree limb just fell nearby. Will we survive??
Avdave
Great night, fireplace is on, winds are whipping outside, house settling or falling apart, lol. Me and my two huskies were just outside and I think we were the only 3 live people outside in the whole neighborhood. It does feel invigorating

KAOS
This is ridiculous! My school NEVER closed because it was too cold. I have lived in MD my entire life. It has been colder and windier in that time span. Having said that, I did NOT walk uphill both ways to school. But...what a bunch of little wimpy crybabies... ravensrule
The latest discussion for Buffalo, boy am i jealous. I wish i could have chased this. EAST OF LAKE ERIE...BLIZZARD CONDITIONS CONTINUE TO BE EXPERIENCEDIN THE BAND CURRENTLY OVER THE SOUTHTOWNS TO JUST SOUTH OF THEERIE COUNTY LINE/NORTHERN CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY. THE MAIN UPPER LEVELTROUGH AKA SHORT-WAVE IS STARTING TO HAVE SOME IMPACT ON THEREGION AT 03Z...WITH BOTH A PUSH TO THE SOUTH BUT ALSO WITHREDEVELOPMENT ALONG THE NORTHERN END OF THE BAND. THE NET RESULTIS LITTLE CHANGE. UPSTREAM LOWER LEVELS SHOW LITTLE CHANGE IN WINDDIRECTION PER KCLE RADAR...ALTHOUGH HIGHER DATA SUGGESTS A WEAKLAKE MI CONNECTION THAT MIGHT RE-ENERGIZE BAND BEHIND THE SHORT-WAVE. LATEST MODEL DATA GETS A STRONGER BAND GETS GOING BETWEEN12-15Z...BUT SUSPECT THIS IS TOO SLOW. THEREFORE EXPECT BAND TO BEDEVELOPING OR IN FULL FORCE BY AROUND SUNRISE NEAR/OVER KBUF...BUTNOT QUITE TO NORTHTOWNS. THE BAND MAY CONTINUE TO EDGE NORTHDURING THE DAY. A CONTINUATION OF BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTEDTHROUGHOUT THE DAY TUESDAY...AND INTO TUESDAY EVENING. EVENOUTSIDE OF THE BAND...BRIEF WHITEOUTS ARE POSSIBLE DUE TO BLOWINGAND DRIFTING SNOW. THE BLIZZARD WARNING CONTINUES THROUGH 6AMWEDNESDAY...BUT IT MAY BE CONVERTED BACK TO ANOTHER LESSSIGNIFICANT PRODUCT LATER IF NECESSARY.TO ADD TO THE PROBLEM...TEMPERATURES HAVE DROPPED TO NEAR 0F ORBELOW OVER THE MAJORITY OF THE BLIZZARD LOCATIONS...WITH WINDCHILLS WELL BELOW THAT. STARTING TO SEE OBSERVATIONS NEARING -40FIN THE SOUTHERN TIER. ALTHOUGH TECHNICALLY WIND CHILLS ARE NOTPART OF BLIZZARD CRITERIA...IT MAKES THIS EVENT A DANGEROUS TOLIFE THREATENING SITUATION FOR ANYONE OUTSIDE WITHOUT PROPERWINTER GEAR.EAST OF LAKE ONTARIO... THE APPROACHING SHORT-WAVE WILL HAVE MOREOF AN IMPACT ON THE LAKE BAND WITH A KIND OF WHIP-LASHEFFECT...SWINGING THE BAND A BIT TO THE SOUTH OF ITS CURRENTLOCATION...BUT ONLY BRIEFLY AS IT REBOUNDS BACK TO THE TUG HILLLATER TONIGHT. THE BAND SHOULD THEN REMAIN IN A STEADY STATETHROUGH THE DAY...WITH NEAR-BLIZZARD CONDITIONS CONTINUING WELLBEYOND TUESDAY.IN TERMS OF SNOW AMOUNTS...THE STRONG WINDS MAKE MEASURING SNOWNEARLY IMPOSSIBLE. IN ADDITION...ITS BORDERING ON DANGEROUS! ROUGHESTIMATES ON THE NORTHERN EDGE OF THE BANDS ARE AROUND 4INCHES...BUT HIGHER AMOUNTS ARE LIKELY IN THE HEART OF BOTH BANDSSO FAR THIS EVENING. WE MAY NEVER NO EXACTLY HOW MUCH FELLOVERNIGHT...BUT WE EXPECT STRONGER AND MORE CONSOLIDATED BANDS ONTUESDAY ENE OF BOTH LAKES. 2-3 FEET FOR THE STORM TOTAL EAST OFLAKE ERIE LOOKS GOOD STILL...DOUBLE THAT EAST OF LAKE ONTARIO.
