I am absolutely baffled as to why they think this with the way our temps have been so far:

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NEW YORK NY
1036 PM EST FRI JAN 3 2014

NYZ072>075-176-178-041145-
NEW YORK (MANHATTAN)-BRONX-RICHMOND (STATEN ISLAND)-
KINGS (BROOKLYN)-NORTHERN QUEENS-SOUTHERN QUEENS-
1036 PM EST FRI JAN 3 2014

NORTHWEST WINDS WILL BECOME LIGHT AND VARIABLE OVERNIGHT UNDER
CLEAR SKIES. WITH A FRESH SNOWPACK ON THE GROUND...TEMPERATURES
WILL DROP TO BETWEEN ZERO AND 5 BELOW ZERO.
THESE BRUTALLY COLD
CONDITIONS COULD LEAD TO FROSTBITE OR HYPOTHERMIA FAIRLY QUICKLY
FOR ANYONE EXPOSED TO THE COLD.

Wow @ that. They are about as near the coast as I am but I am 15 degrees warmer than them right now. Being in the UHI royally sucks. It's so disgusting and unnatural.

On a night like tonight with calm winds and deep snowcover, if the vast majority of us can't reach zero it will be hard to imagine a regime under which we can do so again unless the PV dives into New England or something.

I'm at 7 degrees right now.
