Temps dropping at a nice clip actually, down to 8, if this continues it might get close to 0.

winds have went calm and the bottom is dropping out - down to 6°; looking to break my 1° record since i moved here in 2007 set in Jan 2009

Coldest 850s are on the retreat overnight,  The whole game is radiational cooling.  Where the wind drops on LI, the temps will too.  Otherwise if the wind stays up we will be in the same boat as Brooklyn.

 

It has been stuck at 9 here for a couple of hours.

Here are the temps on the tower at BNL as of 10:45PM:

 

2 meter: 7.52

10 meter: 8.96

50 meter: 8.6

85 meter: 7.88

 

Surface winds are getting light at OKX, so they should start to decouple soon.  I'm not sure when/if they will at my location much closer to the sound.

I've been in this house since 1995 and we've only touched 0 once.  Here are the coldest temperatures (+5 or below) IMBY since 1995:

Got to -5.7 here, but haven't gone any lower yet.  I see some -10 readings on the Wundermap in my general vicinity.  The NWS is calling for -16 in my point and click forecast.  Most of the local dewpoints are in the -10 to -15 range.

7.8 at midnight (I call that 8). 

 

1/3 stats at Smithtown: low 7.8, high 15.6, snowfall 5.5", snow depth 9"

 

Daily precipitation: still working on that.  Melted a 4" wide core and came up with 0.98".  Seems high to me.

There's already decent warming in the mid levels and at the 850mb level. A lot of this cold air we have is all in the low levels so I wouldn't look at the 850mb temps. Look at the surface high. I think the problem is the winds. They're light out here, but just enough to keep us from fulling radiating. Tbh, I may seem far east enough to radiate, but it still well developed here, I do have the UHI to a tiny extent.

Thank you all for your responses. I am still sitting at 9 degrees with a NNW wind @ 5 MPH. I am desperately hoping my temp goes below zero in some form within 7 hours. I hope my winds go calm. If I can't get below zero tonight, I won't get the chance to experience it again this winter. I never experienced a sub-zero temp before in my life here in Brooklyn, or anywhere else for that matter.
