WVclimo
What happened at Hagerstown? Spiked 11 degrees between 2 and 3 pm from 8 F to 19 F. Now 21 F.... That station is always screwy. It never drops at night there either. I am about 10 air miles southwest of the airport. My high was 12.5. Looks like 13 at MRB.
WinterWxLuvr
12.9 for the high. Already back to 8.7.

Ian
Well I guess it's not terrible saying coldest day in 18 years.... yeah. I'm bummed about the high but we usually suck at cold so whatever. gymengineer
yeah. I'm bummed about the high but we usually suck at cold so whatever. It's just really hard to get a high of <20 F at DCA, no matter the forecast/models. The timing has to be near perfect. We've had other <20 forecasts since 1996 that didn't verify either. If you look at the 1/09 days, the peak of the cold was moving in on the 18/11 day and moved out on the next day, where the 8 degree low was matched up with a high that shot up to 27. It's really hard to match the coldest low with the coldest high-- even in 2/96 that didn't happen. IAD got above forecast today too, so it wasn't just DCA. clskinsfan
14 ended up being my high for the day. I'm down to 11 now. I wonder if I need a new weather station? My readings seem to be a little higher than the others in my area.

WEATHER53
Several stations had thermometer failures. man, 5 degrees and no sun with 20mph winds is So Much Colder than 5 with sun, I would value it 10-15* milder.

WVclimo
Looks like a -24 departure here today. Should put my area at -9.2 through the first week of January with 2 record lows. Interesting that 6 of the 12 record lows for Jan 1-12 here were in 1968. The two records that fell this week were none of those dates.

Transient cold air dump into the middle of the country bleeding east.Whether this one wipes humanity from the face of the earth or not has yet to be determined.
