lsukev
That was kind of a joke.. The subtitle at least. Neither shot looks very prolonged though it's not hard to get thin ice over some sections. Oh yeah, I knew the title was a joke. I was meaning frozen over- thin ice from bank to bank.
Bob Chill
Oh yeah, I knew the title was a joke. I was meaning frozen over- thin ice from bank to bank. Maybe the tidal basin and harbor but the main river will have a tough time. Tide and current moves the water too much and even with really cold temps they are too short lived. I'll bet there is a correlation with frozen river and -nao. We need a block and a week or 2 of 30's for highs and low 20's for lows.

One of their boats has ice armor on the hull.

snow. If we don't, were toast, even if McCoy puts up 150 yards. That said, I like our chances of getting throttled by Seattle. Should be good tailgating weather... WEATHER53
Last extreme cold for me was on shores of Lake Ontario Feb 2007. 10 degres, cloudy, 30 mph winds with many gusts over 40. Personal coldest is 2am Inaguration morning 1985, temp -2 winds 20-25 with frequent 30mph gusts. On old wind chill scale that was almost -60 in the gusts. Recorded a low of -6. nw baltimore wx
yup I had no idea. The cold should be an advantage to you, and if Philly gets snow, the snowballs thrown from the stands could be a problem for the Saints too. Living out of your home team city for football sucks. MN Transplant
With the caveat that raw surface temps from the GFS aren't very good at range, the 06z run has a nice 24 hr drop of nearly 50 degrees from 4am Monday to 4am Tuesday. 850s go from +7 to -26. usedtobe
If the 850 temp being forecast are around -26 like the models keep pushing, we could have a single digit min at DCA with zero being observed in some of the colder suburbs.
Bob Chill
Most have probably done it but it would be a good idea for everyone to make sure outdoor water faucets are off and water drained. Pipes against crappy insulated walls should be considered as well.

WEATHER53
Probably wnt to take that -26C and carve off about 25% so really -19/20 which is still very cold. Last time DCA had a sub 20 high was Jan 2009 I think.(18F) Probably not more than 5-10 sub 20 highs at DCA in last 25 years.

SLPressure
Too bad this deep cold doesn't last. Long lasting - 1 week or more - of the deep cold is one sure way to keep the insect population under control for the following spring and summer. Just think. Fewer ticks, mosquitoes, STINKbugs, etc. Ahh... heat and humidity, backyard grills and no bugs. My kind of summer!
Ian
The snow makes tomorrow night a bit more interesting. Wildcard in the temp game. MOS in the teens earlier.. single digits might be doable in those areas out north and west.
MN Transplant
The snow makes tomorrow night a bit more interesting. Wildcard in the temp game. MOS in the teens earlier.. single digits might be doable in those areas out north and west. The problem is that we are seriously warm air advecting aloft overnight Fri into Sat. 850s near freezing by mid morning. We will blow tomorrow's high at midnight and not fully realize the cold snap for lows. Next week is the prize.
