TauntonBlizzard2013
This seems to be evolving into a Thursday night Friday morning deal. Light snows all day Thursday, main course overnight. Friday morning commute could be ugly, especially east
dendrite
One aspect guidance agrees on is the severe cold that will accompany the snow Thursday night and Friday morning. Very rare to see steady snow (perhaps even heavy snow and blizzard conditions) with temps getting to 5F or even below that. And then we top it off with brutal cold Sat AM. Clinch Leatherwood
The problem still is the same as many other systems this early season....the BZ is pushed way offshore by the first wave which leaves the main system some work to do. Despite a prime vortmax track we're not seeing an epic KU..and until/if we can knock out that first wave or slow it down somehow....we won't see that massive KU. Hate to come off as a bunner but for christ sake, it's like there needs to be a new warn criteria call ..I dunno, "eeeek"
H2Otown_WX
Boy. I just got a peak at the NAM. That track of the vortmax was quite tasty. The surface depiction wasn't as nice. But 500 ws nice. Agreed, hr 63 was a thing of beauty. And it was comical to see how different it was compared to 18z

Yeah but notice the emphasis is now on the system closer to the coast where the q-vector forcing argued all along it should be. enough so to almost think it will commit that much more upon these next couple of cycles. moneypitmike
The NAM is more entertaining than Ryan Secrest's New Year's Eve show.

TauntonBlizzard2013
It may be downright uncomfortable/dangerous too be clearing snow Friday. Not a good day to be outside
Tropopause_Fold
friday is going to be a nasty day. that probably ends up the biggest story here. combo of snow, blowing snow and temps falling toward 0F is something we don't see all that often in these parts. most guidance even has the upper portions of the Cape below zero by Saturday AM...a pretty solid indicator for serious serious cold over the interior. Harbor temps are 38 to 42F now; I'm wondering what they will be come Sunday. Probably not that much different considering the heat capacitance of water is about 4 times more than air at a given temperature above ice, but the flow being onshore during those extreme temps makes one wonder if there might be some transient quasi-ice flows. I dunno.

That's actually an interesting point... It's going to be hard to create aggregates of any size in that, and the needles and dendrites could shatter in the wind smashing, causing the air to be like 1/8th mile visibility in ...something not much bigger than pixie dust
