Looks like I'll finally have to close the windows this evening and turn on the furnace...

-3F around these parts...temp seems stuck

:lmao:

BowMe probably will have to put on long sleeves now!

I close all the curtains when it gets this cold at night.

Getting nasty out there now with the wind. Drifting starting down the street.

I know drifting snow was coming. I decided to try something to try to cut down on the most drift prone area of the driveway.   If you can see I cut two trenches through the snow in the yard. And piled up the snow in a ridge perpendicular to the expected strong NW winds. I want to see if I can avoid the driveway drifting over in this area and having to try move snow again when it's below zero. Hopefully the wind will deflect off to the side and drop the snow in those trenches. Other picture is the opposite side of the driveway. The snow over there should stay in the yard.

^Interesting idea.  Hopefully it works out for you.  If it drifts over here I'm throwing her in 4wd and blasting through it.  Not going outside to deal with it anymore for a few days lol.

Yeah I'll end up driving over anything that falls beyond about 5pm today.

Wind Chill pushing about -10° now. 0° actual temp line almost into Madison.

O yeah and most schools in the area are now closed to Monday.

GL with that Geos....sounds like a neat idea!

@ Alek.... I told my mom (since my dad is recovering at a PT local), that she is not allowed to go outside after 6:00PM tonight thru tuesday night without calling me first, (even just to shovel or check the mail) then calling me back once she gets back inside....The freaky cold temps/windchills can do so much damage to people and property in such a short amount of time.  Best of luck to you.

Good call with the saving something for posterity Hoosier....my version....

Yikes

HOW FAR TEMPERATURES DROP TONIGHT IS A TRICKY FORECAST BECAUSE THE

WINDS WILL KEEP THINGS MIXED. IN GENERAL...MOST STATISTICAL AND 2
METER TEMPERATURE GUIDANCE SUGGESTS LOWS TONIGHT IN THE -20S...WITH
PERHAPS SOME SITES IN NORTH CENTRAL WISCONSIN AND SOUTHEAST
MINNESOTA APPROACHING -30F. THIS SEEMS REASONABLE BASED ON WHATS
GOING ON UPSTREAM IN THE DAKOTAS. DID RUN SOME BACKWARDS
TRAJECTORIES FOR 12Z MONDAY FROM THE 05.12Z NAM AND THEY ALL POINT
TO EAST-CENTRAL SASKATCHEWAN AT 12Z TODAY...WHERE READINGS WERE -25
TO -30F. ADDING IN THE WIND RESULTS IN INCREDIBLY LOW WIND CHILLS OF
-50 TO -60F BY 12Z MONDAY. IF WE HAD CALM WINDS...LOWS WOULD AT
LEAST BE IN THE -30S AND PROBABLY EVEN -40S. GIVEN ONLY ABOUT
2-4C 925MB TEMPERATURE CLIMB ON MONDAY...TEMPERATURES ARE LIKELY
TO STRUGGLE TO GET TO -10...AND READINGS IN SOUTHEAST MN AND NORTH
CENTRAL WI COULD STRUGGLE TO GET MUCH WARMER THAN -20F. WITH THE
WINDS STAYING CONSTANT...WIND CHILLS MAY ONLY IMPROVE ABOUT
10F...STILL LIFE THREATENING. SEE THE CLIMATE SECTION BELOW FOR
RECORDS.

Really looks like we're going to get midnight highed here on Monday which is kind of a shame considering the airmass moving in.  But the daytime cold should still rival the all-time great arctic outbreaks.

Although the cheap midnight high will be a problem at the official ASOS sites, CO-OP sites record in the morning, so all-time record-low highs could be broken still at those sites.

Interesting idea.  Essentially a natural snow fence, made of snow.

So far it's working this evening. Drifting out around open fields and agricultural lands is pretty bad now.

i'm actually a little nervous about this...maybe more than any other weather event. Worrying about the car, pipes, dog, etc.  Can't wait till this passes.

Yet you get your second major snowstorm in a week
