Regarding the NAM and its higher totals today/tonight, should be in a good range to sniff out the fgen banding, maybe even more so than the GFS because of the NAM's higher resolution. On the day of the event the NAM performed very well with the February events last winter. We'll see about it being the farthest north with tomorrow's wave.

In the office at all over the next 60 hours?

6am tomorrow then the rest of the week, should be a fun drive from Naperville.

Good morning. This is our latest in-house computer model. This is by the time all snow should wind down Thursday afternoon. Snow will begin here later this afternoon and continue with varying degrees of intenstiy into Thursday. MOST of what you see here, falls by noon New Year's Day. . HAPPY NEW YEAR! SAFE TRAVELS

lordy.....safe travels man!  I'm hosting tonight...I would offer an invite but with travel time into the office to get there by 6am .... well, that prolly wouldn't work out too well.

Best of luck in the office!

Thanks! Actually planning to attempt going to a party in the city tonight lol. May end up having to take the train in if it's bad, which this would be one of the events where roads could be a little rough given how cold it is. The 1/20/12 event that has been referenced had terrible road conditions because of the cold temperatures.

NOT PLANNING ANY CHANGES THIS MORNING TO THE WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY
LOCATION/TIMING...HOWEVER QUICK GLANCE AT 12Z GUIDANCE SUGGESTS THAT
MAY NEED TO EXTEND END TIME OF HEADLINE SOME AND POSSIBLY EXPAND THE
AREA. GIVEN THAT THE EVENT APPEARS WELL COVERED THROUGH THE NEXT 24
HOURS WOULD LIKE TO TAKE SOME TIME TO FULLY DIGEST THE MORNING
GUIDANCE AND COLLABORATE WITH NEIGHBORING OFFICES BEFORE MAKING ANY
CHANGES TO GOING FORECAST AND HEADLINES FOR THE SYNOPTIC PORTION OF
THE EVENT.

HAVE OPTED TO HOIST A LAKE EFFECT SNOW WATCH FOR LATE WEDNESDAY
NIGHT INTO THURSDAY FOR COOK COUNTY AND BOTH LAKE COUNTIES. LAKE
EFFECT IS FICKLE AND TOUGH TO NAIL DOWN DETAILS OF WHERE...BUT LAKE
EFFECT PARAMETERS WOULD SUGGEST THE POTENTIAL FOR INTENSE LES BAND
WITH VERY HIGH SNOWFALL RATES. WILL HAVE MORE ON THE LES POTENTIAL
IN THE AFTERNOON AFD.
