WeatherFanMatt
My local radar, seems to not be detecting heavy rain for some reason. Rain on my local radar is just yellow. while the radar far away from it, shows it as heavy rain (Red). So do all the other surrounding radars. And yes, it's on minimum tilt. I'm not a meteorologist myself, but is there an explanation for this?
The_Global_Warmer
Even on the lowest angle the beam still shoots upwards. The other radars sites are further away shooting higher up probably scanning the precip in the cloud deck or before it evaporates a bit on its way down. The_Global_Warmer
I should say it could of been bright banding. Snow melting as it's intercepted by the radar beam. Highly reflective. I don't know what your local situation was though.
WeatherFanMatt
Thanks, didn't think of that. Any more inputs are welcomed.
New England Storm
The other radars are shooting higher into the storms on the lowest tilts. So what looks red on the other radar sites is not actually a good picture of what is actually falling in the area. What is .5 elevation on the local radar could be like a 1000 ft higher with the beam hight on a radar that is not local.

WeatherFanMatt
Apparently, there was some reflectivity spike.
