NorthShoreWx
Beautiful morning today in Smithtown following yesterday's snow and freezing rain: 20140214SnowIce-028es1000.jpg 20140214SnowIce-039es1000.jpg 20140214SnowIce-041es1000.jpg[/quote That's sooooooo amazing and matches perfectly with the ice storm I drove to in oyster bay yesterday! What a different climate you guys have! I can't believe that ice survived the thunderstorm! We had zero left over in the trees this am nada nothing We missed out on the thunderstorms as usual and only had 0.38" liquid equivalent from part 2 of the storm. That included the 1" of snow at the end and a couple of brief heavy showers which were mostly freezing rain but some did run off. Today's warm sunshine reduced our snow depth from 18" this morning to 14" now, but that was mostly yesterdays snow compacting. The old hard layers of 8 or 9" are still down there. We probably had about 2.5" SWE before yesterday and added another 1.73" of liquid, so there is at least 4" of water in the snow pack. Looks like we'll add a little to it tomorrow. donsutherland1
Spectacular sunset tonight after the rain rolled through. I agree. I was driving home and the clouds just started breaking creating both a spectacular sunset in the West and a rainbow--mostly orange in this case--in the East.
