By the time the month is over, Chicago, Detroit and Toledo will have seen one of their snowiest months on record. Toledo has already cemented themselves at #1, and Detroit and Chicago both should do AT WORST top 5. The only way either of them finish at #5 is if the models all fail miserably these last 10 days of the month. Realistically, they both should finish at least #3. When you are talking one of the snowiest months (any month, not just January) for 3 seperate cities that all have records to the 1880s...thats mega impressive.

A little OT, but what I think is an interesting side note to the cold. I have a friend who lives up by the IN/MI state line that loves to ice fish. He has complained for the past couple of years that he couldn't keep long periods of safe ice. This year he quit ice fishing because he's tired of hand auguring holes through 12 - 16" of ice. lol

Getting some pretty wild weather over here.  For the last 40 minutes we have alternated between sunshine and heavy snow squalls.  We had three squalls.  The last one looked like a blizzard with 1/4 mi visibility.  Ten minutes later it's totally clear and sunny again.

Same here. Walked out to grab the mail, and the sky was quite dark just to the south. 10 minutes later, +sn.
