on_wx
NOAA keeps an online archive of most weather alerts issued for all counties in America, so here is one for the Region of Waterloo in Ontario for perspective. Our local climate is markedly different from surrounding areas especially when considering lake breeze convergent thunderstorms, lake effect snow, lake winds, etc so some counties may be double or even triple what we are with some types of alerts. Severe thunderstorms dominate our local alerts. From mid 2005 to present. Some, or a lot, of data missing. ..............................#....AVG PER YR WINTER STORM WATCH............22...2.59 SNOW SQUALL WATCH.............5....(only began 1 or 2 yrs ago) SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH.....135..15.89 TORNADO WATCH.................5....0.59 WINTER STORM WARNING..........10...1.18 SNOW SQUALL WARNING...........20...2.35 SNOWFALL WARNING..............15...1.76 FREEZING RAIN WARNING.........31...3.65 WIND CHILL WARNING............5....0.59 FLASH FREEZE WARNING..........2....0.24 BLOWING SNOW WARNING..........3....0.35 RAINFALL WARNING..............9....1.06 WIND WARNING..................21...2.47 WEATHER WARNING...............1....0.18 SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING...90...10.59 TORNADO WARNING...............7....0.
