Winter Storm December 19-22, 2013

A potent cold core upper low developing across Southern California and Northern Mexico will eject E and NE across our Region Friday into Saturday bringing a variety of weather that may have significant travel and societal impacts in the Pre Christmas Holiday travel period.

Guidence has trended a bit faster as of late, which could limit instability (but then again, because of the short day length, maybe not) and veer-back profiles could also be an issue. Still though, could be a decent event in the warm sector.

Starting to see winter storm watches go up across the area in anticipation of the storm. Generally 4-8" snows and up to 1/4" icing are the main threats in the watch area.

I posted this in the other thread, but I thought it might have value here, too.

It is surprisingly cold here in Central OK this morning. Even as of late last night, I don't think any forecast had us getting below freezing here until maybe later tonight and then only very briefly and just barely. According to my car thermometer (which is surprisingly accurate), it is 29 F right now and that matches up well with the official numbers from Will Rogers (which is on the south side of OKC at 30 F) and Wiley Post (which is on the north side of town at 27 F). It doesn't appear that there is any organized precip anywhere particularly close to us at the moment, but that stuff to our southwest might just be here in time to make the evening rush more interesting than expected.
