It is coming Will I don't think there is any doubt about that now. Might as well enjoy the torch. One thing I am certain of is there is a raging +OCD around here right now. heavy heavy car washings coming up.

TheSnowman
Ya for some reason it's feeling like 25 out not 12. Maybe this insanely cold winter is making me a Super Snowman, resistant to temperatures over -5 without a big coat on. Got a REALLY Nice 50:1 Fluff Snow today for 0.5"! A Small smile on this horrible winter. I picked it up and put it on my face and it was SO Fluffy it was Softer than a blanket! Could see every flake. Perfect snow but it had no use with bare ground except a very pretty morning. Anyone have a radar of what happened?

ORH_wxman
The December 8th-equivalent sun angle is really high today. We might have trouble accumulating any snow during the day by the time winter returns around 1/17-1/20.

First the high sun angle and in a day or two sunrises getting earlier starting Friday....I'm heading down to change the oil on the mower.
Ice Warrior commander
Right....bizarre. I was refering to the 00Z Op Euro. It had a Low just SE of CC at 216 hours. I was saying it with humor as well since people were talking about hyping. It was a half joke.

We've gained a couple minutes there already to go along with a 15 minute increase in evening daylight. This is really the first week where it starts becoming noticeable. Granted your sunsets are a bit earlier than ours, but now at 5 it's still dusk and not pitch dark like it was just a few weeks ago.

You can really feel that sun angle lowering in the summer on July 7th. Big difference from 6/21.

I only use it as a trolling tool. Doesnt really matter if it's a decent event. March 2005 flash freeze event taught me that once and for all. Logan11
At 180 it looks like the Euro is setting something else up. I didn't see it past that. Is that another cutter getting ready to phase? Typhoon Tip
Most likely. Not sure about 60F...but I think we'll get into the 50s for sure. There's some timing problems though on the models...the Euro doesn't phase the southern stream and we end up with probably 40s on Saturday/Sunday and the more mild wx waits until Monday. So there's no reason to forecast 55F yet on Saturday...it still might not be that warm. Friday is too early for the warmth. It will be warmer, but still in the 30s probably. Maybe some low 40s tickling the south coast. Yeah it looks like the Euro backed down off those loftier appeals of the 00z guidance, although it will be a mild period of time. Snow eating and muddy fields could open up for a time. Also, Euro is now in bed with the GFS on a transitory pattern. Couple of mild days with a cool insert in there. By and large, a boring pattern after several weeks of relative excitement with snow/cold threats, but not one slated to last too long imo. PNA rise is demonstrative at this point, particularly at CDC. CPC even shows a respectable positive mode change that in fact has a current mean that surpasses any positive mode since September.. Plus we have the EC members signaling a -EPO possible nearing the 20th. NCEP's MJO monitoring has a weak MJO but suggested that if any influence were to be subtended down stream into N/A it would favor renewed cold invasion potential for week 2 -- that would be a constructive wave interference where the NP and MJO then team up teleconnector weighting and we could end up with a more extreme tipped flow in Canada if that were to transpire where the MJO is indeed more effective out in time. Interesting... I think by and large we endure a relative quiescent pattern and enjoy other activities prior to checking back into a wilder times as the month goes on... Can't really hone an event in all this, but it's a cold stormy canvas in the future.

The only thing noticeable is the fact that my grass is slightly deader looking than it was 4 weeks ago. The significant daylight increase doesn't occur until about the second week of February, and sun angle isn't a major "problem" until very late February. Its not a major problem for snowFALL, until after midway through March.....it is an issue regarding snow retention in early March.

Tough crowd. If you haven't noticed the later sunset, I don't know what to tell ya. It's pretty obvious when the sun goes down 15-20 minutes later than it did just a few weeks ago. Typhoon Tip
Pretty close to where my current thinking also resides... ...SENSIBLE WEATHER HIGHLIGHTS...EVEN WITH A FAIRLY AMPLIFIED MEAN PATTERN... PACIFIC ORIGIN OF AIR MOVING INTO/ACROSS THE LOWER 48 SHOULD LEAD TO ABOVE NORMAL TEMPSAT MOST LOCATIONS DURING THE PERIOD. WARMEST TEMPS RELATIVE TO NORMAL SHOULD BE ACROSS THE NRN TIER DURING THE WEEKEND AND OVERTHE EAST EARLY NEXT WEEK. STRONG FLOW ALOFT WILL BRING CONSIDERABLE MSTR INTO THE NRN HALF OF THE WEST COAST AND NRN ROCKIES DURING FRI-SUN WITH UP TO SEVERAL INCHES OF RNFL OR LIQUID EQUIV IN SNOWFALL PSBL DEPENDING ON ELEVATION. AHEAD OF THE MEAN TROUGH ALOFT THE ERN HALF OF THE CONUS SHOULD SEE TWO PERIODS OF ENHANCED PCPN THAT SHOULD BE PRIMARILY RNFL EXCEPT FOR PERHAPS EXTREME NRN AREAS... ONE DURING FRI-SAT AND THE SECOND FROM SUN INTO AT LEAST MON. HIGHEST TOTALS FOR THE COMBINED EVENTS ARE CURRENTLY EXPECTED FROM NEAR THE CNTRL GULF COAST NEWD INTO THE TN VLY OR SRN APLCHNS.RAUSCH
