Wow still 40F here in Guilderland.

We had a big gust of wind here a few hours ago and the temp jumped from 36F-56F in about 5 minutes.  I went for a ski and now the temp is back to 42F.  Roller coaster day.  4" left in my backyard, but ski tracks in field and on trails were getting iffy.

Posted this in the NNE thread, but figured it could go with this thread.  The meteorology of this is awesome.

So when I left the mountain at 2:30pm, it was 32F at the 1,800ft Spruce Peak base station.  Looks like the inversion broke and its now fully mixing down with 45F at the summit, full mixing would give another 10-12F from that level (normal lapse rate of 5.5F/1000ft)...which leads to 57F.

So the summit started getting huge wind gusts around 1-2pm (went from gusts to 20mph to gusting to 60mph very fast) as the inversion broke at the summit.  The temperature went from 33F to 45F very quickly.

The inversion then started lowering down the mountain in elevation...it then finally broke at that Spruce Peak station (1,800ft).  Look at the increase in wind (from dead calm and cool, to windy and warm) and the temperature rise.

25 degree rise in 2 hours once the inversion broke.  Here at 750ft the inversion is still intact and it is 33F at my house, where 1,000ft above my head it is nearing 60 degrees.

Are we supposed to get anymore liquid?

Another round of steady light rain tomorrow morning in SNH. You should get some glazing overnight if you drop below 32. Temps may bump back above in the morning but we should hold onto the CAD into the afternoon until the cold front mixes it out late day.

Nice pics! It is awesome to look at. Not so great when the power starts going.

Yeah so far we have lucked out, but it would have been a lot worse if we were not saved by sleet last night. We would have had over an inch of accrual if not for that.
