It's been snowing near the border in VT.

Yeah I saw it at FSO, but it's an AWOS. There's probably a lot of sleet there with snow grains mixing in.

I was in Williston this afternoon and ran into sleet there around 2 or 2:30.

Man stowe may ice up for a fun filled sunday.

Pfreak many people stayin in town this weekend or the wx scare them off slopes. (I guess i mean prior bookings on this date)

Everyone is staying in town this weekend...places are sold out from this weekend through New Years essentially.

See the thing is, rates are so high during these holiday periods, and ALL hotels require pre-paid in full deposits (to make sure they still get the money even if people don't come), so 99% of the people show up even if the weather sucks.  If you paid $500 per night for a week here, you are coming whether it is pouring rain or -30F.  You've already paid for it (and huge bucks too for this time period), so you've got nothing to lose by coming.  If you don't come, your out a couple grand and the hotel will probably fill that room with another party within 15 minutes of you canceling.

People just do not back out of reservations during the holiday time period...the hotels pretty much force you to come by charging highly inflated room rates (due to high demand) and then make you pay in full at the time of booking.

While this is weather is bad, to be honest, its no worse than -15 to -30F temperatures.  The general public would almost rather ski in soft rainy conditions than -20F with -50F wind chills.  That gets overlooked a lot on here because we like cold/snow, but deep cold is just as bad for business as rain.  As odd as that sounds.  The city folk get scared off by below zero temperatures (or at least the ones we see), especially once Wind Chill Advisories are posted and the news folks are all hyping deep cold that'll kill you within minutes, haha.  That's just as bad for ski businesses as Flood Watches in a lot of respects.

In n conway on way to Bartlett, thermometer soon to be in hand, i bet river road is a cold spot in town or the area at the low road that funnels near the base of cranmore

I picture you driving around in a convertible with the top down (in December) holding a thermometer high above your head as you find the coldest hollows in town.
