Pre Xmas storm

I thought that was interesting. I read their discussion and forecast right when I woke up, and assumed everything had warmed significantly. Then I saw the Euro comments. Who knows? At this point I don't care so much, and am focused on the period leading up to the New Years when I assume it will be getting stormy again.

seems like cold air takes sweet time oozing down

euro was nasty though. It gets a little evaporatively cooled assist once the precip gets into Maine. The more south we get the sleet line the more likely it'll be bad around here. The freezing process of ZR releases latent heating. With sleet, the hydrometeor refreezes aloft so the latent heating occurs above the sfc.

i think portland is in big trouble

I'm 15 miles north and usually 3 to sometimes 8 degrees cooler than Portland. I'm preparing for no electric through xmas. Nothing wrong with being prepared right.... but it's shocking to me how many people don't know that there is a potential for this storm to really screw up the next 5-7 days.

That's because it did not get over hyped, The effects will start to show late today into tomorrow

yeah, not much media attention yet. I've been telling people at work and they're like "meh", then I say "remember 1998" and that get their attention. Not saying that's what'll happen, but most think we're looking at rain and 50f.

Peoples ears perc up when you mention 1998, Probably don't see it to that magnitude as this will be a shorter duration but still significant

Same here. Plus where I live, I get the effect of cold air drainage down the Kennebec River Valley. As OceanStWx stated in a reply to me yesterday, it's always a good idea to be prepared in the winter months in Maine. I convinced my daughter to call off the trip from PA to Maine tomorrow. No sense in placing the family in any danger. I will see my new grand daughter soon enough.

Certainly wouldn't know it based on our forecast and lack of headlines. Everyone around here that I've talked with today has shrugged this off -- "Now they're saying just rain here on the coast." Could be a real disaster if it turns out icy and the general public isn't on guard for it.
