The GFS actually is so cold in the low levels it gets sleet pretty far south...a lot of that qpf would go into pellets, which would obviously be a good thing versus ZR.

Check out the 12z GGEM with that damming!  It even is deep enough on this run to start winnowing back the 850s a little...

Well I'm working midnights on Christmas, so my family and I decided to have it this weekend in RI. I just cancelled Christmas to make sure I'm available to work and so that I don't have to drive in this mess. A true Grinch.

I think there will be more then just your Christmas cancelled if this comes to fruition

CoastalWx - if you had to take a wild guess at it, what would you estimate for ice accumulation from PWM to Camden?  Much appreciated :)

Honestly, that is not a good idea..lol. Lets just say significant ice is possible. Power outage worthy.  But there is A LOT to figure out between now and then.

Same here, but we've got a lot of food in the fridge that I suppose we could put into coolers and move outside. No showers would suck if it was more than 2 days, although I can take one at work. Wife will be unhappy. We live down a 1/4 mile camp road with nobody else. CMP owns the power lines, but not the poles. Thankfully most of trees are far enough away from the lines, so we should be all set, but if not, we'd be screwed as I'm sure we'd be last on the list for repair work. I'm having flashbacks of our builder asking us if we wanted to add a genny when we built last year. We were out of $$$, so that was a no-go, but wishing we had it now. I was in CT in 98, so only heard from my parents how bad it was. They lost power for a week I think. Ugh!

Sounds a bit familiar, no gen, lots of wood, tertiary (at best) road.  I plan to get another full 2.5 gal of chainsaw fuel, so at least we might be able to cut our way out, maybe to haul our freezer contents to a friend with power.  Our dead-end road is public, so all the power gear is CMP's, but only 3 families and 2,000' thru dense woods means a potentially long time before the lineworkers get here.  The 70' hardwoods to the northeast side of the road have been reaching out over the opening for decades, and so would be pulled into the R-O-W by big ice, while the 90' pines on our (SW) side of the road remain straight, though they would launch some big limbs if the worst happens.

In 1998 the line separating catastrophic tree damage from light/moderate was about 10 miles south of MBY; obviously IP dominated to the north, ZR to the south.  At our Gardiner home where it was essentially all ZR, the accretion was almost all on days 1&2, then on day 3 (had no precip) the temp climbed above 32.  This paradoxically increased the tree breakage for a bit, as the ice which had functioned as an "exoskeleton" lost most of its rigidity but little of its weight.  Trees in some areas on higher ground still retained most of their ice nearly a week past the event.

Hoping for sleet, or even something better.

Not too late to get one of these:

If you have water, you can have a hot shower.

Phil I'm not sure why you now think its peaceful, and that it may not be if I were here. Not sure what else to say other than to wish you a merry-passively aggressive Christmas.

Enjoy your day.

Pretty sure that was aimed at NE CT not NE MA.

Pretty sure it went over your head..lol.
