SACRUS
this could be the only December that averages below normal with a 70 degree day...it needs to get cold again soon... That looks likely with negative departures by Christmas day and next week looking below normal.
CIK62
That looks likely with negative departures by Christmas day and next week looking below normal. Yeah, the 12/24-12/30 have max. temps. near 40, and from the 12/31-01/06 under 32 for highs. (by GEFS, the CMC is higher for period)
Stormlover74
Right now ewr is +30 for the day...tomorrow will almost certainly push them back above normal for the month so all said and done the monthly departure should be close to average

Wxnyc
It's amazing if you were traveling north on the 87 today you'd go from 70 in nyc to 33 in Albany to 18 in Montreal. It's only a 7-8 hour trip.
Sundog
NYC pushing a +25 departure day. Monthly departure still standing at -0.9 Today pretty much eliminates that negative departure.

ILoveWinter
Hi Everyone FIrst time poster, long time lurker and weather enthusiast though not nearly as knowledgeable as most people here which is why I tend not to post. Anyway I just notices something interesting with the current temps in and around the Albany area. There is a pretty wide range of temps between Albany and Troy (Albany in mid 30s, Troy in low 60s), can someone explain? Is the cold front bewtween those 2 cities? I am posting the wunderground link, you can see the temps in the surrounding cities as well towards the bottom: http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=zmw:12180.1.99999 For the record I am from Armonk in central/upper westchester, but just wanted to inquire on the above. Thanks.

forkyfork
With a dew point pushing 60 the last thing I'd want is the sun out right now.60 isn't a high dewpoint. especially considering that it was almost 20 degrees higher in july
Isotherm
We've had 60F dew points numerous times throughout DJF, that isn't unusual. It's the strength of the warm sector at H85 and the amount of sun we've seen yielding 70F+ temps that's amazing.

That's the only way that makes sense.

donsutherland1
If New York City's low temperature comes out at 60° or above (the figure for the day so far is 61°), today will mark the first day of meteorological and astronomical winter during which the temperature did not fall below 60°. The latest such date is currently November 27 (a low of 60° occurred on 11/27/1896) and the earliest such date is March 25 (a low of 61° occurred on 3/25/1913).
