MESOSCALE DISCUSSION 2086
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0336 PM CST TUE DEC 17 2013

Areas affected, portions of srn new england into srn me

concerning, heavy snow

valid 172136Z - 180130Z

summary, heavy snow, with rates on the order of one inch per
hour, will develop and spread newd across srn new england into srn
me this evening.

discussion, warm conveyor precipitation is increasing across srn
new england late this afternoon, much of it in the form of snow.
latest sfc analysis suggests sfc low has evolved about 30mi south of
isp and strong low level warm advection should drive this feature
newd across the sern tip of ma around 03Z. low level winds are
veering across this region and warming in the lowest 1km should
allow snow to change to rain across sern ma. just
inland, rain/snow line should remain southeast of the bos metro
region and heavy snow is expected to spread/develop newd across
ma/srn vt into srn me over the next few hours as llj translates
across srn new england and nose of llj shifts toward downeast me
late this evening.

forecast thermodynamic profiles depict steep mid level lapse rates
that should prove favorable for deeper convective elements that
favor heavier bursts of snow, possibly greater than one inch at
times. ascent should decrease/lower through the profile across
ct/ri by 00Z with favorable uvv continuing across srn me through
03-04Z time period.

Dry slot is killing accumulations over RI.  Looked like it was closing up and rotating out, now expanding again.  Bummer...

there's kinda been something going on in the RI area all day, we got stints of mod snow but found little holes all day around PVD.  disappointing but but its just less snow for the Grinch to steal this weekend

I'll be lucky if I end up with 3" with the snow staying light… unless something spectacular happens over the next few hours.

24.9/22 - Light snow.

The warm air just couldn't make this far north I guess…  High was 26.2 here about an hour ago.

Orient Point made it to 37 (now back down to 31) … Montauk still in the 40s and now Block Island busted into the 40's…

Oh so close…
