RUNNAWAYICEBERG
my bad didnt want to upload such a high res large file. wtf. anyway, i guess it was over 2" but since my driveway was wet and i could easily see my 2" grass blades, i thought it was under 2". CapturedNature
Fail for you and fail for the 5" amounts I'm seeing in some towns. Just make sure that your snowboard is in an open area. It too can be susceptible to drifting off a roof or tree branches with this kind of snow. Grass would make the difference but so would sweeping and measuring too. All it would take was measuring 2.5" from the first batch and 2.5" from the second round and you have 5" legitimately. I'm not a fan of that method but I suppose that someone could have done that. Mine is in a good spot away from roofs/trees... got a pretty good distance there. I'm sure clearing would have given me more but this all really fell in a 6 hour window so I doubt it would have made a huge difference. Also, at 15:1, there wasn't a ton of settling/compaction when I measured. I think the combination of the snow's stickiness (at 0C) and the fact we were virtually all dendrites made a big difference for grass v board. Once you manage like 8 or 10" of decent snow the grass just gets flattened anyway.

We actually had close to 6" in some grassy areas, but there was just under 4" on the board. It was "blotchy" in spots too, with some areas raised up more than others, even on the sidewalk. CapturedNature
They got screwed today. Both bands that dropped the goods wound up missing them. I was in Springfield this afternoon and there was a brief period of some good snow but it just didn't stick. It got a little better driving home through the lower part of Somers but just going up the hill things changed. The road was covered and it just looked like winter. I think elevation helped here but not everywhere. I was looking at the coop reports from this morning and with the exception of northern Maine and Mt Mansfield (16") we actually tie for having the most snow on ground in New England with 4". That won't last long but it's always neat to see.

N. ROOSTA
What a dud today was only .5" Figure its a net gain. NEXT Don't even want to speculate on what could transpire between now and next week. A weenie guess would put it at 20X that. There is always a CF this time of year, any East wind and it cooks. CapturedNature
If it was over 6 hours in length, it would definitely be possible. I was just speculating. I suppose if they did a 0600-1200 and 1200-1800 that would separate each "wave". Like I said, I do that or support that method but its another explanation. Having said that, I think Ryan's suggestion of how they arrived at that number is the most likely explanation. BTW, do we really have more snow on the ground than you do in Stowe? Clinch Leatherwood
Seems we had a good handle on this here pretty early on despite the lack of Euro being on board. Great work by all here. Worked out pretty much as expected. I doubt it's the last time the GFS/NAM jump on board a close passing system while the Euro smokes cirrus only to see the NCEP stuff go overboard while the Euro does well in the extreme short term. I'm happy with a couple of inches of snow with pretty much all of SNE seeing something south of the Pike. Not bad for 12/
